the history of Château lascombes
The history of Château Lascombes dates back to the 17th century, when Chevalier Antoine de Lascombes, an officer in the royal army, became the owner of the farm that was to become the winery. At that time, the estate was not yet producing wine, but Chevalier de Lascombes set about developing the vineyards and improving the quality of production.
During the 18th century, Château Lascombes passed to the de Salles family. It was under their ownership that the estate began to acquire a certain renown and establish itself as a producer of quality wines. However, it was in the 19th century that the estate underwent a real transformation thanks to entrepreneur Léonce Récapet.
Léonce Récapet, who acquired Château Lascombes in 1821, was the driving force behind the estate's development. He modernized the facilities, expanded the vineyards and built the magnificent neo-classical château that is today the estate's landmark. Under his leadership, Château Lascombes became one of the most prosperous and renowned estates in the Margaux appellation.
In 1855, during the official classification of Bordeaux wines for the Exposition Universelle in Paris, Château Lascombes was ranked Second Grand Cru Classé, a distinction that testifies to the exceptional quality of its wines. This prestigious classification has enabled the estate to gain in visibility and international recognition.
Over the years, Château Lascombes has undergone several changes of ownership. In 1951, Alexis Lichine, a famous wine merchant and estate owner, bought the estate and helped maintain its reputation as a producer of exceptional wines. In 2001, Château Lascombes was acquired by the Colony Capital Group, an international investment fund, which invested heavily in the renovation and improvement of the estate.
Today, under the management of Gaylon Lawrence & Carlton McCoy, and with the expert guidance of renowned winemaker Michel Rolland, Château Lascombes continues to produce wines of exceptional quality.
Château Lascombes, the property
Located in the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of the Gironde, the Lascombes terroir benefits from a unique combination of geological, climatic and geographical factors.
The soil is composed mainly of gravel, which are pebbles mixed with sand and clay. These well-drained soils enable a good penetration of the vines' roots, favouring the development of the specific characteristics of each grape variety. The gravel also helps retain heat during the day, which is beneficial for optimal grape ripening.
Margaux's climate is temperate oceanic, characterized by hot summers and mild winters. The proximity of the Gironde estuary contributes to a moderating effect, creating favourable conditions for viticulture. Château Lascombes vines benefit from optimum exposure to the sun, favouring photosynthesis and grape ripening.
The vineyard is planted mainly with traditional Bordeaux grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. Each grape variety makes its own contribution to the final blend of the estate's wines, adding aromatic nuances and a specific tannic structure.

It all starts with the vineyards of Château Lascombes, which cover 120 hectares. The vines are carefully tended by a dedicated team, following environmentally-friendly viticultural practices focused on quality.
Harvesting is carried out by hand, enabling a meticulous selection of grapes, so that only the very best are retained. The grapes are then transported to the winemaking facilities, where they undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks. This method preserves the freshness and purity of the grapes' aromas.
The wines are then placed in French oak barrels, allowing a subtle interaction between the wine and the wood. This gives the wines aromatic complexity, a balanced tannic structure and a long palate.
The time spent in the cellar to age the wines varies from vintage to vintage but is generally around 18 months. During this period, the wines acquire their harmony and balance, while developing complex aromas and a silky texture. The winemaker, Michel Rolland, and the technical team carefully monitor each batch of wine, following its evolution and making informed decisions to achieve the best possible balance.
The result of this attentive know-how can be seen in the Château's wines. They are distinguished by their elegance, aromatic richness, refined tannic structure and ability to age harmoniously for many years. Each bottle reflects the estate's commitment to quality and the Bordeaux winemaking tradition.

the cuvées of château lascombes
The Château offers several cuvées, each with its own distinctive style and characteristics.
First, there's the Grand Vin of Château Lascombes, made from the finest grapes harvested, representing the ultimate expression of the Margaux terroir. This wine is characterized by its aromatic complexity, with intense aromas of ripe black fruit, subtle notes of spice and an elegant tannic structure. It has exceptional ageing potential and can be cellared for many years.
Cuvée Chevalier de Lascombes is the second wine of Château Lascombes. It is made from younger vines or specific plots on the estate, offering a more accessible, fruitier approach than the Grand Vin. This wine stands out for its generous red fruit aromas, supple structure and silky tannins. It's an ideal choice for those seeking a more affordable wine without sacrificing quality.
In addition to its flagship cuvées, the Château also produces Le Haut-Médoc de Lascombes, a cuvée that showcases the exceptional terroir of the Haut-Médoc region. This wine is made from younger vines and offers a more accessible, fruity style. It has seductive aromas of red fruit, a silky texture and freshness on the palate.
