Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, also known as Pichon Comtesse and Pichon Lalande, is located in the Médoc, in the heart of the Pauillac appellation. The vineyard covers 102 hectares and has the particularity of having 11 hectares of vines in the commune of Saint-Julien. Second Classified Gowth in 1855, the estate produces wines known to be more feminine, with an exceptional personality marked by elegance, balance and finesse.

history
The history of the estate began in 1689 when Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan bought vines to create the Enclos Rauzan. His daughter, Thérèse, married Jacques Pichon, Baron de Longueville, a few years later, and the vines that were part of her dowry contributed to the foundation of the sublime Pichon Longueville estate with 50 hectares of vines.
Following the death of the Baron, the estate was divided between his children in 1850. One part went to his son, Baron Raoul Pichon de Longueville, which became the Pichon Baron estate, and the other to his three daughters. One of the sisters, Virginie Pichon de Longueville, Countess of Lalande, had the neo-classical castle built and named it after her. Five years later, during the Universal Exhibition in Paris, Château Pichon Comtesse de Lalande was elevated to the rank of Second Grand Cru Classé.
In 1925, the heirs of the Countess sold the estate and was bought by Edouard and Louis Miailhe, wine brokers. Together with Edouard's daughter, May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, they contributed to giving a new impetus to the estate and to the international influence of the wines of the property.
In 2007, the champagne house Louis Roederer, directed by Frédéric Rouzaud, acquired the property. He gave it a new impetus through the restructuring of the vineyard and equipping the estate with a new cellar and a new vat room, raising the wines to the rank of the best classified growths of Pauillac. The Rouzaud family also continues to perpetuate the spirit of the women who have vinified these wines for decades.

Located in the Médoc within the Pauillac appellation, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande covers 102 hectares and has the particularity of having 11 hectares located in the commune of Saint-Julien.
The property enjoys an ideal location between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde estuary, allowing it to benefit from an influential micro-climate, thus protecting the vines from climatic hazards such as frost. It also has an exceptional terroir made up of Garonne gravel hills with a sandy-clay subsoil offering the vine perfect conditions to produce great wines. Composed of more than a hundred parcels, the vineyard is made up of Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
The respect of the environment and the impact on the preservation of the heritage are important values at the property. That is why since 2010, the teams integrate biodynamic farming in their practices, in order to promote biodiversity and limit their impact on the environment. The estate also has the High Environmental Value level three certification.

FROM THE VINEYARD TO THE CELLAR
In the vineyard, following a major reorganization in 2009, the best specimens from each parcel were selected and cloned in order to preserve the identity of the terroir of the estate. This massal selection allows the replanting of historical vines to preserve the heritage of Pichon Comtesse. In order to protect the vines and to allow them to develop harmoniously, the teams practice double guyot pruning, a soft pruning that requires great precision. At the end of the summer, the teams walk the rows every day to analyze and taste the grapes until they reach a perfect maturity in order to proceed with the harvest.
FROM THE CELLAR TO THE BOTTLE
During the harvest, the grapes are transported to the gravity-fed vat room inaugurated in 2012 in order to carry out a tailor-made parcel-based vinification. This allows to preserve the quality of the grapes, the expression of the diversity of the terroir necessary for the blending and to limit the oxidation of the juices to preserve the freshness of the wines. Once the fermentation is over and the free-run wine has passed, the pomace is extracted and delicately pressed, bringing complexity and structure. Then comes the blending stage, an important step that takes place in January when more than 70 batches are tasted blind. The wine is then aged in barrels, 50% of which are new oak, for 18 months. During the aging process, the teams proceed to racking. As soon as the wine becomes cloudy, the racking is completed and the clarified wine continues its maturation.
THE
Château'S CUVÉES
Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, produces well-balanced wines, with a silky tannic structure and a beautiful aromatic complexity.
The Grand Vin, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, has a dark purple color. The nose is complex, floral and fruity with notes of vanilla and cinnamon. In the mouth, it is a precise and racy wine. We find the floral notes of the nose as well as silky and melted tannins revealing a beautiful flexibility and a long persistence.
The second wine, formerly named Reserve de la Comtesse, is since the 2017 vintage Pichon Comtesse Réserve, a charming wine, accessible from its youth. It is a balanced wine with floral, fruity notes with a touch of spice. It has a beautiful finesse, round, coated tannins as well as a long finish.
