Located in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, Château Lagrange, 3rd Grand Cru Classé in 1855, proudly sits in this prestigious terroir. Nestled between Margaux and Pauillac, on the left bank of the Gironde, this vineyard is distinguished by a singular characteristic: 85% of its surface area is held by Grands Crus Classés. The vines of Château Lagrange extend harmoniously over two gravel ridges. Günziennes, one of which marks the highest point of the AOC Saint-Julien. This wine estate, surrounded by a wooded park of nearly forty hectares and decorated with a lake, offers a natural setting of rare beauty. A remarkable fact: the current configuration of the vineyard, with its unchanged plots, is identical to that which was classified under Napoleon III in 1855, thus giving this estate an unrivaled history and tradition.

THe history
For nearly two centuries, Château Lagrange remained in the hands of the same family lineage, thus preserving its integrity and continuity.
One of its emblematic leaders, Charles de Branne de Cours, assumed management of the estate from 1712 to 1746. At the height of the wine industry, this renowned Bordeaux family, also owner of Mouton Rotschild, worked to make Lagrange one of the pearls of the Médoc. Following Charles de Branne, his son Antoine de Branne took over, then his great-nephew Jean-Baptiste Arbouet de la Bernède, who assumed management of the property in 1771. Jean-Baptiste Arbouet continued the development of the estate in undertaking the modernization of certain installations, in particular the vast vat room which dates back to this period.
The golden era of Lagrange extended from 1842 to 1875, under the ownership of Count Duchâtel, Minister of the Interior under Louis Philippe. In 1845, Duchâtel entrusted the Franco-Italian architect Louis Visconti with the construction of the Tuscan-style tower, a symbol of elegance and identity of the Château. Thanks to its innovative spirit, Lagrange achieved the rank of Third Growth in 1855.
When the Suntory family group acquired the estate in 1983 from the Cendoya family, owners since 1925, it now comprised an area of 157 hectares, including 56 dedicated to vines.
The President of Suntory, Keizo Saji, accompanied by his Vice-President, Shinichiro Torii, is deploying all their efforts to restore the reputation of this Grand Cru Classé.
After three decades of commitment, work and expertise, Château Lagrange is experiencing a true renaissance. Today, he continues to tell his story.
Under the direction of Matthieu Bordes and his team, the estate is passionately committed to the quest for meaning and excellence, aiming to produce wines of incomparable breed and elegance, worthy of the greatest Saint- Julian.

THE PROPERTY
Nestled on two ridges of Günzienne gravel, one of which constitutes the highest point of the appellation, the Château Lagrange estate extends over 118 hectares in a single area.
Our grape varieties consist of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 5% Petit-Verdot, spread over more than 100 distinct plots. Our vines, aged on average 40 years, date back to 1952 for the oldest. In addition, 11 hectares are reserved for the production of white wine, composed of 80% Sauvignon blanc, 10% Sauvignon gris and 10% Sémillon.
The estate has identified 17 distinct soils and subsoils, which allows it to judiciously adapt the grape varieties and rootstocks to each terroir. This personalized approach to viticulture, carried out plot by plot, allows it to best reveal the unique character of each of them. They work in harmony with nature, with the aim of protecting the earth and its resources. Their objective is to research and propose solutions to climate challenges, while aiming to produce exceptional wines by reducing their ecological footprint.
Since 2008, Château Lagrange has followed biodynamic specifications on 10 hectares and organic farming specifications on 20 hectares, without claiming certification. They maintain numerous plots of vines with natural grass cover in order to promote the development of the underground ecosystem and limit erosion.
The entire team protects their resources, respects nature and is attentive to their mode of production. Their commitment is reflected in the quality of their wines, which constitute their greatest reward.

Winemaking
FROM THE VINE TO THE CELLAR
From the selection of plants to traditional methods of working the vines, their philosophy aims to maintain homogeneous and reasoned production. During the manual harvest, they pay particular attention to the selection of the best bunches, in order to extract the quintessence of their character and their singularity.
Subsequently, the grapes are crushed and introduced into each vat, thus continuing our commitment to providing personalized care to the vine: with 102 stainless steel vats associated with the 103 plots of the estate, we preserve the freshness of the aromas and flavors, as well as the unique character of each terroir.
FROM THE CELLAR TO THE BOTTLE
During the aging period, the wine is taken care of at each stage, from racking with candles to dodging requiring great precision, including topping up which requires patience and expertise. Several months, even years, are essential to allow the wine to mature and fully blossom. Then, he embarked on a journey to national and international destinations thanks to the Bordeaux trade.
At the heart of the cellars, the cellar of old vintages contains a real treasure: it is there that centuries-old bottles are kept, testifying to the heritage and know-how of the oenologists who worked at Lagrange.

THE GREAT WINES
CHÂTEAU LAGRANGE
Like a tightrope walker, this wine reveals the perfect harmony between the three grape varieties planted on the estate: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Powerful and vibrant in its youth, over time it acquires a remarkable delicacy thanks to a slow and serene evolution.
Tasting note: Aromas of cassis and black cherries mingle with spicy and smoky nuances. Over time, it also develops notes of cedar, licorice and tobacco, characteristic of the great wines of Saint-Julien.

Created in 1983, “Les Fiefs de Lagrange” is much more than a second wine. It comes from young vines now aged 30 years on average and planted on fine gravel soils for Cabernet Sauvignon and clay for certain Merlots.
This wine of great elegance is characterized by supple tannins. Notes of red fruits and spices offer an intense aromatic palette to Fiefs de Lagrange, which reveals all its young character but with a certain aging potential.
