Château La Lagune: A Treasure of Haut-Médoc in Full Transformation
Located in the heart of Haut-Médoc, Château La Lagune is a true viticultural gem, recognized as a 3rd Cru Classé since 1855. This prestigious estate embodies the excellence of the Haut-Médoc appellation, thanks to its exceptional terroir and centuries-old expertise. Renowned for its wines of great finesse, Château La Lagune carefully blends two of Médoc's most iconic grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
A Wine of Balance and Elegance
The vineyard of Château La Lagune extends over 80 hectares of meticulously maintained vines. Each year, the estate produces wines that stand out for their balance, finesse, and elegance. These characteristics reflect the special attention given to every stage of winemaking, from the vine to the bottle. Château La Lagune has thus become a benchmark for lovers of great Bordeaux wines.
In addition to its grand vin, the estate also produces Moulin de La Lagune, a second wine that receives the same meticulous care. This second wine allows enthusiasts to explore the world of Château La Lagune through a different expression of its terroir.
A Transition to Organic Farming
Since 2013, under the leadership of Caroline Frey, oenologist and owner of the estate, Château La Lagune has embarked on a conversion to organic farming. This decision stems from a deep reflection on the environmental impact of viticulture and the desire to preserve the terroir for future generations. The organic conversion was a rigorous process, requiring an adaptation of cultivation practices to meet the requirements of the organic label.
The goal was clear: to obtain organic farming certification for the 2016 vintage. This challenge was successfully met, making Château La Lagune one of the few classified growths in Médoc to adopt this ecological approach. This transition to organic farming has only enhanced the estate’s reputation, offering wines that are even purer, environmentally friendly, and fully expressive of their terroir's potential.
A Promising Future
The approach initiated by Château La Lagune does not stop there. The estate continues to innovate and perfect its practices to offer wines of ever higher quality. The year 2022 saw the birth of new primeurs, eagerly awaited by enthusiasts and experts worldwide. These wines promise to perpetuate the estate’s tradition of excellence while embodying its commitment to sustainable viticulture.
Château La Lagune, a Cru Classé of Haut-Médoc and now certified in organic farming, stands out as a true jewel in the world of wine. Each vintage is a new opportunity to discover or rediscover this estate, which never ceases to reinvent itself while remaining true to its heritage.
At 12bouteille, we follow with passion the evolution of this exceptional estate, and year after year, we can only witness the rise in quality of its wines. For lovers of great classified growths, Château La Lagune is a safe bet, a wine to savor and cherish in your cellar.
