Château Ferrière: A Jewel of the Médoc with a Rich History and a Promising Future
Château Ferrière, nestled in the heart of the Médoc, is a vineyard whose history runs as deep as the roots of its vines. This emblematic estate takes its name from its founder, Gabriel Ferrière, a distinguished man who, in the mid-18th century, held prestigious positions as a royal broker in Bordeaux and the King's hunting officer. The Ferrière name, already synonymous with excellence at the time, would soon be etched into the viticultural history of the Médoc.
In 1855, during the famous classification of Médoc wines, Château Ferrière was duly recognized by being ranked among the 3rd Growths. This distinction marked a turning point for the estate, enhancing its reputation and prestige on the international stage.
However, the history of Château Ferrière is also marked by significant transitions. In 1914, the estate changed hands and was later managed on a lease by Alexis Lichine, a notable figure in the wine world. Despite these changes, the château has never ceased to evolve, adapting to the demands of each era while maintaining its essence.
The arrival of the Villars family in 1988 initiated a new era for Château Ferrière. Under their direction, the estate undertook a major transformation, combining respect for tradition with innovation. This dynamic renewal reached its peak in 2013 with the launch of extensive works, led by Claire Villars Lurton, a wine enthusiast and visionary. Her commitment to organic farming led Château Ferrière to achieve certification in 2015, reflecting the estate's dedication to producing wines in harmony with nature.
The wines of Château Ferrière are a reflection of this quest for excellence. They are distinguished by an exceptional balance and a deep, dark, and bright purple color. The nose, still reserved, gradually reveals complex aromas of black fruits and blond tobacco, promising a rich sensory experience. On the palate, these wines offer remarkable power and structure, accompanied by a freshness that underscores their unique character. The finish, long and elegant, leaves a lasting impression, a sign of a great wine.
Château Ferrière, with its rich history and exceptional wines, continues to evolve under the guidance of the Villars family, ensuring a prominent place among the great wines of the Médoc for generations to come.
