Château La Tour Carnet, an emblematic property of Bernard Magrez, embodies the viticultural excellence of the Haut-Médoc. This estate, renowned for the richness and diversity of its terroir, has risen to the rank of 4th Cru Classé in 1855, a status that attests to the exceptional quality of its wines.
Built in the 12th century, Château La Tour Carnet is one of the oldest and most beautiful castles in the Haut-Médoc. Its history begins with a valiant squire, who, as a reward for his bravery in battles alongside Lord Jean de Foix, was granted this magnificent property.
The estate has endured through the centuries, experiencing periods of prosperity as well as more difficult times. It was in the 20th century, after a long period of hardship, that the château regained its former glory thanks to Louis Lipschitz, a shipowner from Gironde. He restored the wine buildings and replanted the damaged vines, breathing new life into the estate. The Lipschitz family maintained the château until 1999, when Bernard Magrez, also the owner of Château Pape Clément, acquired it.
The vineyard of Château La Tour Carnet spans 73 hectares, between the communes of Saint Laurent du Médoc and Beychevelle. The diversity of soils, composed of clay, limestone, and gravel of Garonne and Pyrenean origin, gives the wines a unique complexity.
The traditional red grape varieties of the Médoc — cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, and petit verdot — are carefully cultivated to produce wines of great finesse. The estate also produces white wines, made from grape varieties such as sauvignon, sauvignon gris, sémillon, and muscadelle.
The wines of Château La Tour Carnet stand out for their deep color with mahogany highlights. Their bouquet is complex, offering notes of blackcurrant, cinnamon, and wood that delight the senses. On the palate, the tannins are fine and balanced, enveloping the mouth with rare elegance. The generous and harmonious finish leaves a lasting impression.
Under the direction of Bernard Magrez, the quality of Château La Tour Carnet wines has steadily increased. Today, these wines are highly recommended to accompany your dinners and meals, offering an unparalleled tasting experience that reflects the passion and expertise of this historic Haut-Médoc estate.
Château La Tour Carnet is not just a wine; it is a living testament to a rich viticultural heritage and an unrelenting quest for perfection.
