Château Cos Labory: A Jewel of the Médoc

Château Cos Labory, classified as a 5th Growth in 1855, is one of the viticultural gems of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, located in the heart of the Médoc. This wine estate, with its evocative name, draws its prestige from a rich history and an exceptional terroir.

The Origin of the Name: A Story of Family and Terroir

The name "Cos Labory" reflects a dual influence. On one hand, it honors the Labory family, who owned the estate until the end of the 19th century. On the other hand, it refers to the Cos hill, the elevated land on which the château and its vineyards are situated. Today, Château Cos Labory is owned by the Audoy family, who took possession over a century ago. This family also owns the neighboring estate, Château Andron-Blanquet, further solidifying their roots in the region.

An Exceptional Terroir Shared with the Greatest

The Cos Labory vineyard covers 18 hectares, an enviable terroir shared with prestigious estates such as Lafon-Rochet, Cos d'Estournel, and even the legendary Lafite Rothschild. This proximity attests to the quality of the land on which the château's vines are cultivated. The richness of the terroir and the careful attention to vine cultivation allow Château Cos Labory to produce wines of great finesse, typical of the Saint-Estèphe appellation.

A Classic Grape Composition and Traditional Expertise

The vineyard of Château Cos Labory consists of traditional Médoc grape varieties, with a dominance of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The vines, on average 38 years old, are meticulously tended by hand to ensure the optimal quality of the grapes.

The winemaking process at the château is a skillful blend of ancestral techniques and modern methods. The wines are aged in oak barrels, which have only aged one vintage to preserve their character, and are vinified at low temperatures to extract the most delicate aromas and elements.
