Château Haut-Bages Libéral, a renowned wine estate, was classified as a 5th Growth in the famous 1855 classification. Located in the heart of the Pauillac appellation, this vineyard benefits from an exceptional geographical location, with half of its vines adjoining those of the prestigious Château Latour, while the other half is situated behind the equally famous Château Pichon Baron. This proximity to two classified growths imparts a unique character and remarkable quality to the wines of Château Haut-Bages Libéral.

A Family History

Owned by the Cruse family for over two decades, from 1960 to 1983, the estate is now in the hands of the Merlaut Villars family, well-known in the Bordeaux wine world. Under their management, Château Haut-Bages Libéral has preserved and enhanced the legacy left by its former owners, while adapting to the modern demands of viticulture.

A Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon Grape Variety

The vineyard of Château Haut-Bages Libéral is composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, an emblematic grape variety of the Pauillac appellation, known for its ability to produce structured wines suitable for aging. The remaining 30% is planted with Merlot, a grape that brings roundness and suppleness to the wines.
