The History of the Deutz Champagne House
The history of the Deutz champagne house dates back to 1838, when it was founded in Aÿ by two Prussians, William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann. Attracted by the prosperity prevailing in France, they began by opening a trading house that quickly prospered and developed internationally.
A few years later, the business became "Maison Deutz" when their descendants married owners of Champagne vineyards. The house remained in the family until 1938, when it was acquired by the Louis Roederer champagne house.
Ten years later, the Rouzaud family became the majority shareholders of Roederer, and thus the new owners of Deutz. True to the founders' philosophy, the different successors acquired other parcels classified among the Champagne Grands and Premiers Crus.
Today, the Maison Deutz owns around 350 hectares of vineyards. Under the presidency of Fabrice Rosset, the house follows a policy of sustainable production and yield limitation, which ensures the assertion of remarkable quality and simply the "Deutz Style".

Vineyard of about 350 hectares, the Champagne Deutz house is located in Aÿ between the banks of the Marne and the slopes of the Reims mountain. It benefits from an oceanic and semi-continental climate, providing ideal conditions with favorable sunshine in summer and constant, moderate rainfall, ensuring a necessary water supply for the quality of the grapes. Coming from the best champagne terroirs, the vines are planted on various soils composed of chalk, chalk gravel, and clay. The grape varieties include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. The estate also practices sustainable viticulture.
The expertise of Champagne Deutz
The grape harvest takes place over about ten days in late September. For the winemaking process, the Deutz champagne house applies the traditional champenoise winemaking method.
Once harvested, the grapes are pressed at the Deutz winery, and the juice is separated into two fractions. The musts then undergo fermentation at a low temperature in steel vats to preserve the aromas, and all undergo malolactic fermentation. Afterward, the wines are blended and receive doses of sugar and selected natural yeasts.
The wines are then placed in the house's cellars, which reach up to 65 meters deep, where the bottles benefit from ideal and constant conditions for aging the wine. The wine is mostly riddled using gyropalettes, except for certain vintages that require manual intervention from the teams. Once riddling is complete, the accumulated sediment is expelled during disgorging. Finally, the dosage liqueur is added, which imparts the "House style" to the wine.
The cuvées of the Deutz Champagne house
The Champagne House Deutz offers many different cuvées such as the classics: Champagne Deutz Brut Classic, A blend of the three classic Champagne grape varieties, this one gives it an ideal balance. With a golden yellow color and fine bubbles, it reveals aromas of acacia flowers, candy, and brioche bread on the nose. The palate is balanced and ample, with fine bubbles, making it a great Brut with perfect freshness. As well as Champagne Deutz Rosé, composed mainly of Pinot Noirs from the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne, as well as Chardonnay, this Deutz Rosé is aged for 3 years in the cellar before its release. With a brilliant robe and lovely pink reflections supported by delicate bubbles, the nose is expressive and reveals the full power of the Pinot Noir with notes of cherries, blackberries, pomegranates, and currants. On the palate, we find sublime crunchy aromas of fresh strawberries and raspberries. You will also find Champagne Deutz Blanc de Blancs, Champagne Deutz - Amour de Deutz, Champagne Deutz Brut Millésimé, Champagne Deutz Cuvée William Deutz and Champagne Deutz Amour de Deutz.
