Gamay is a very old grape varietal from the north of the Lyon region, descending from a natural cross between the Gouais and the Pinot Noir. With poor support for heat, the Gamay is grown in the cool regions of France, it is found mainly in the Center-East In 1395, the Gamay is moved from the Côte-d’Or to the south of Burgundy and Beaujolais and is today the king of the great red wines of Maconnais thanks to its granitic and siliceous soils. The Gamay has fruity aromas with notes of raspberry, wild strawberry, black cherry and blackberry. It can also find light scents of pepper and peony. The Gamay allows the elaboration of fruity wines, warm, moderately colored and little tannic. These are wines that are drunk quite young and fresh, making them perfect summer wines. The wines of Gamay have the red color with purplish reflections, they are greedy, refreshing and have an acidulous structure. On the nose, its wines offer a delicious bouquet of aromas of red and black fruits and can also reveal scents of undergrowth as well as slight animal notes. After a few years, the perfumes evolve towards notes of spices and prunes. On the palate, Gamay wines are powerful and fleshy and evolve to silky tannins over time. This grape also makes it possible to produce fruity and elegant rosé wines. Among the varietal wines of Gamay, we have selected the delicious Beaujolais from the Louis Latour estate such as Julienas 2015, a wine of great freshness, Morgon “les corcelettes“ 2014, a powerful and full-bodied red or the delicious 2013 vintages and 2015 Beaujolais-Villages. We have also selected Beaujolais Domaine Joseph Drouhin as Saint Amour 2014, one of the most famous wines of the appellation, Brouilly 2013, a powerful and fine wine and finally Fleurie 2013, a Beaujolais among the best known.
