Mourvèdre is a grape variety of Catalan origin with melting pulp. Cultivated today on the coast of the Mediterranean coast, particularly in Bandol and Languedoc, this variety of grapes requires sunshine and heat to ripen favorably. This grape variety, called “improver“, is the king grape of the Bandol appellation. Mourvèdre wines are of a beautiful color and a high quality. Tannic, Structured and Aromatic, these wines have a good aging ability (usually at least 5 years) and wood aging which makes them finer and more complex. These wines can also be drunk young, they then offer aromas of black fruits (blackberry and blackcurrant), pepper and also notes of laurel and garrigue. Then, after a few years, they reveal richer and rounder aromas. On the palate, Mourvèdre wines are known for truffles, leather and stewed fruits such as blackberries, blueberries and prunes, as well as fine flavors of spices and game. When grown in Bandol or Languedoc, renowned appellations, this grape is self-sufficient, otherwise, for more complexity, it can be associated with Grenache, Syrah, Carignan or Cinsault.
