Anne-Françoise Gros created Domaine AF Gros in 1988 by inheriting part of the vineyard from her father Jean Gros, who came from a renowned family in the wine industry. Indeed, the Gros name is associated with several renowned estates such as Domaine Gros Frère et Sœur, Domaine Michel Gros, Domaine Anne Gros and Domaine AF Gros, all of which originate from the Domaine Louis Gros, father of Jean Gros, and Anne-Françoise is thus perpetuating her family's wine-making tradition with her own estate.
François Parent, Anne-Françoise's husband and a native of Pommard, has been in charge of the vinification of the wines since the foundation of the Domaine. Today, the vineyard covers about 10 hectares, including Anne-Françoise's share of Domaine Jean Gros, as well as land bought or rented in and around Vosne-Romanée, and her husband's share of Domaine Parent.
Since the arrival of the children at the estate, they have been busy ensuring the proper development of the estate's activities. Under the guidance of his father François, Mathias is in charge of the vinification of the wines, while Caroline is in charge of the management, the development and the marketing of the wines of the estate.
The estate has vineyards in several prestigious appellations of the Côte de Nuits, including Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, and Echezeaux. The wines of Domaine AF Gros are renowned for their elegance, finesse and complexity.
The main grape varieties grown by the estate are Pinot Noir and Gamay. The vines are cultivated in a sustainable manner, with respect for the environment and the terroir.
The estate produces a range of red and white wines, including grand crus such as Grands Echezeaux, Richebourg and Clos de la Fontaine in Vosne-Romanée. The wines are made with great care and attention to each stage of the production process, from the cultivation of the vines to the vinification and maturation in oak barrels.
Domaine AF Gros is considered one of the best producers of Burgundy wines, with an international reputation for the exceptional quality of its wines.
Domaine AF Gros has been working the most prestigious terroirs in Burgundy for many years. It stands out for the exceptional quality of its Pinot Noir cuvées, which are considered to be an authentic expression of the Burgundian terroir.
Always driven by the quest for excellence, the Gros-Parent family has crafted its wines with great elegance and exceptional finesse, and have become a true benchmark for great wines. The estate is particularly well known for its ability to create prestigious cuvées, making the most of the terroirs on which its vines are grown.
François Parent and his son Mathias are very attentive to the health and vigour of the plants. This is why they apply techniques such as selective pruning, leaf removal and green harvesting if necessary, to optimise their yield. The estate also carries out extensive soil work, and practices sexual confusion in certain parts of the vineyard. Once the grapes have been harvested by hand, they are transported to the Domaine's cellar in Beaune. Mathias then carries out a 100% de-stemming and leaves them to macerate cold for 4 to 5 days with regular pumping over to allow the juice to oxygenate as much as possible. Malolactic fermentation in barrels is also carried out during the vinification.
Finally, at the estate, the wines are aged for 12 to 18 months in oak barrels during this period. Depending on the cuvée, the wines are not aged for the same length of time. The wines of the Villages appellation are aged for 12 months, with an average proportion of 50% new barrels. The Premiers Crus remain in casks for 15 months, with an average proportion of 65% new casks. As for the Grands Crus of the estate, they are exclusively aged for 18 months in new barrels.
The Cuvée Echezeaux Grand Cru is considered to be one of the most prestigious wines of the estate. This cuvée comes from a 0.26 hectare vineyard located in the "Champs Traversins" section of the appellation on soils composed of gravel and limestone rocks allowing excellent aeration of the roots and vines. The result is marked by great finesse accompanied by an elegant tannic structure and a beautiful complexity.
AF Gros Haute Côte de Nuits is the perfect example of the estate's remarkable expertise at an excellent price-quality ratio. This wine, made from the Pinot Noir grape, an emblematic variety of Burgundy, reveals an elegant, fruity and delicate wine. The palate reveals impressive depth, with notes of red cherries, sweet and tart raspberries, and just a hint of violet.
