The estate is one of the oldest vineyards on the island, and its history is marked by the Abbatucci family and its great men. The property pays tribute to them with the emblematic Cuvées Collection. Moreover, the wine history of Abbatucci goes back more than a century. Generations have succeeded one another, passing on in turn the family heritage and know-how.
In the 1960s, Antoine Abbatucci, father of Jean-Charles Abbatucci, president of the Corsican Chamber of Agriculture, decided to create a conservatory in order to protect the endemic grape varieties of the island threatened with extinction. He then passed the torch to his son Jean-Charles, a biodynamist, who exploited this exceptional land to its full potential. He also wishes to develop the return to the cultivation of traditional grape varieties among the great Corsican winegrowers.
Located in the Taravo valley in southern Corsica, the estate extends over twenty hectares of granite slopes. With a northern exposure that favours the ripening of the grapes, the vineyard is composed of 18 varieties of grape varieties mainly sciacarellu and Vermentino, constituting today a real treasure in the wine heritage of the island.
Since the year 2000, the estate practices biodynamic agriculture. The teams seek to preserve the original and specific flavours of the Corsican soil while respecting nature and the soil. This allows to help the regeneration of the soil and the plants. On a living soil and in the respect of the environment, the vineyard produces healthy and balanced grapes, which, once vinified, transcribe all the aromas of the Corsican maquis. The domain also welcomes a flock of sheep that graze in the vineyards during the winter.
The grapes are harvested by hand and only indigenous yeasts are used in the winemaking process. For the red wines, the grapes are collected by gravity without being crushed. The vinification is done in truncated wooden vats or concrete tanks. The maceration will last several weeks with alternating punching down and pumping over. The wines are then matured in tuns and half-muid of 600L for 12 months and then in stainless steel vats for a few months. At the bottling, a light filtration can take place if necessary. Finally, the wine is matured in bottle for 6 months.
For the white and rosé wines, the vinification is similar. The grapes undergo a direct pressing, followed by a static settling of 24 to 48 hours. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats, followed by maturation on fine lees for 6 months. A fining may take place if necessary and a natural tartaric stabilization by cold storage. Finally, a sterile filtration is carried out at bottling.
The domain offers different cuvées.
The Cuvée Faustine Vieilles Vignes, a tribute from a father to his daughter, proposed in red, white and rosé. The red has a cherry colour and offers a beautiful aromatic palette. The white, made only from Vermentino, is a fresh, aromatic wine with a rich mouthfeel and a hint of minerality on the finish. The rosé, with its pale colour, presents aromas of red fruits with floral notes. In the mouth, it offers a silky and greedy texture.
The Cuvées Collection, a tribute to the great personalities in the family's history, includes Ministre Imperial Rouge, a wine with a light garnet red colour and a powerful nose. The palate is finely woody, slightly smoky and has a mineral note, characteristic of the estate. Diplomate d'Empire White is a wine of surprising finesse with yellow fruit aromas and exceptional length. Général de La Révolution White is endowed with a beautiful freshness with a crisp and mineral mouth.
The Cuvées Cépages Corses, including the red Monte Bianco, are endowed with a black colour, ruby reflections and a powerful nose. It is a wine finely wooded, smoked with a mineral note, characteristic of the domain. The tannins are elegant and the persistence complex.
