The history of Domaine Peraldi
The history of Domaine Comte Peraldi dates back to the 7th century when the first traces of vines were observed. However, it was only in the 17th century that the first written records of the presence of vines on the current lands of the estate appeared. In the early 19th century, the vineyard belonged to Monseigneur Mario Felice Peraldi. He then bequeathed it to Pope Civita Vecchia in Italy, who later passed it on to his great-nephew Jean Peraldi in 1863. Jean planted a few vines for his personal use and let the rest return to scrubland.
At that time, tradition dictated that land was inherited from mother to daughter and titles and buildings from father to son. The estate thus passed into the hands of Jean Peraldi’s daughter, the wife of Count Charles de Poix, and then to their daughter Bénédicte de Lussac. She decided to sell the estate to her brother Louis de Poix, who was passionate about the land.
Louis de Poix became the owner of the estate in 1965 and decided to replant the vineyard to produce quality wine. He worked with other winemakers to gain recognition for the Ajaccio AOC, which was obtained in 1971. He named the estate Comte Peraldi in memory of Count François Joseph Peraldi, the last male representative of the Peraldi family and a defender of Corsica's cultural heritage.
Since Louis de Poix acquired the estate, a process was put in place to ensure the quality of the wines: selection of the best plots, choice of suitable grape varieties, respectful viticulture, etc. In 1988, Guy de Poix inherited the estate from his father. He decided to invest in preserving the history and expertise, while promoting and passing them on.
Following their father's death in 2011, his four children now continue the family tradition.
Domaine comte peraldi, the property
The Domaine Peraldi benefits from a Mediterranean climate. In winter, temperatures are mild, while in summer there is a risk of drought along with a strong influence from both the nearby sea and mountains. Due to its exposure on the slopes overlooking the Gulf of Ajaccio, the vineyard also enjoys exceptional sunlight. Located on the heights of Ajaccio, on the slopes of Mezzavia, the estate covers 50 hectares of vineyards and rests on granite soil, which is known for giving wines finesse, a light color, and intense aromas.
The wines of Domaine Comte Peraldi are made from indigenous Corsican grape varieties, which are at the heart of the Ajaccio appellation. First, there is Sciaccarellu, which stands out with its aromas of spices, red fruits, coffee, and wildflowers. Then, Niellucciu gives the wines a deep ruby color, with a bouquet of red and black fruits, sweet spices, violets, and woody notes. Lastly, Vermentino is distinguished by its intense floral notes, producing powerful, dry white wines.
To obtain good grapes and produce high-quality wines, the estate's vines are cultivated using sustainable farming methods. Pruning is adapted to each grape variety, and yields are controlled. The teams also practice semi-permanent grassing, providing the soil with the necessary organic matter.
The know-how
of the comte peraldi estate
Following the harvest, the grapes are taken to the winery for vinification. For red wines, this takes place in concrete vats. For whites and rosés, thermo-regulated stainless steel vats are used to keep the juices at a low temperature, to produce fine wines with a lively, fruity bouquet.
Ageing takes place in a semi-underground cellar equipped with concrete and stainless steel vats, as well as a barrel cellar containing 200 French oak barrels. Red wines spend a minimum of 16 months in the cellar, allowing them to soften, mellow their tannins and acquire harmony and balance.

The estate offers several cuvées: there is the Domaine Comte Peraldi cuvée, available in red, typical of the Ajaccio appellation, with notes of spices, black fruits, and a deep, intense palate. In white, it expresses the pure essence of Vermentino, with aromas of white fruits and aromatic herbs. Also available in rosé, with notes of fresh red fruits and refreshing acidity. The estate also offers the Guy de Poix rosé cuvée, the Clémence Blanc cuvée, the Guillaume Rouge cuvée, and the Cardinal Rouge cuvée.
