The Laurent Roumier Estate: A Legacy of Passion and Winemaking Excellence in Burgundy
Located in the heart of Burgundy's prestigious wine region, the Laurent Roumier Estate is a living testament to a winemaking tradition that has endured for nearly a century. This estate, nestled in the charming village of Chambolle-Musigny, near Beaune, is the result of the hard work and unwavering passion of Laurent Roumier, heir to a renowned lineage of winemakers.
A Family History
The Laurent Roumier Estate has its roots in the winemaking history of the Roumier family, dating back to the founding of the original estate by Georges Roumier in 1924. Georges Roumier, Laurent’s grandfather, established solid foundations that would shape the identity of this iconic estate in the Côte-d'Or. In 1991, after many years working alongside his brother, Laurent Roumier decided to strike out on his own, creating his own estate. He began with four hectares of rented vines, a modest start that would gradually expand over the years through judicious acquisitions. Today, the Laurent Roumier Estate spans a dozen hectares, all located in the prestigious wine region of Chambolle-Musigny.
Traditional and Respectful Viticulture
Laurent Roumier continues to uphold traditional viticulture methods, paying close attention to the health and quality of his vines. The estate’s plots are mainly composed of old vines, with an average age of around 35 years. This vine maturity contributes to the complexity and aromatic richness of the wines produced.
Respect for nature is at the core of the philosophy at the Laurent Roumier Estate. Here, viticulture is conducted in an entirely natural manner, without the use of chemical fertilizers or herbicides. This environmentally friendly approach helps preserve soil biodiversity and ensures grapes of optimal quality.
Authentic Winemaking
Winemaking at the Laurent Roumier Estate is carried out using traditional methods, reflecting Laurent’s commitment to authenticity and family heritage. Harvesting is done by hand, with meticulous care taken to select the best grapes. Once in the cellar, the grapes are vinified with particular attention, following ancestral practices that have established the reputation of Burgundy wines.
The result of this meticulous work is a wine of rare finesse, with exceptional aromas that captivate lovers of grand cru wines. The wines of the Laurent Roumier Estate are distinguished by their elegance, complexity, and ability to age, developing even deeper flavors over time.
A Tribute to Burgundy
The Laurent Roumier Estate embodies Burgundy's winemaking excellence. Each bottle produced is a tribute to this unique region, where climate, terroir, and expertise combine to create exceptional wines. For Laurent Roumier, being a winemaker is not just a profession, but a passion passed down from generation to generation, a devotion to the art of winemaking that is evident in every drop of wine produced.
In sum, the Laurent Roumier Estate is much more than just a vineyard. It is a place where tradition and passion meet, where each vintage tells the story of a family, a terroir, and a region that have shaped the history of wine. For lovers of fine Burgundy wines, discovering the wines of the Laurent Roumier Estate is to taste the very essence of this land blessed by the gods of wine.
