History and Identity of the Estate

Domaine de l'Aurage is a true family jewel nestled in the heart of the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, spanning 20 hectares of exceptional terroir. Formerly known as Château Cadet, the estate has weathered the passage of time while preserving the soul and authenticity that define it.

Owned by Louis Mitjavile and his wife Caroline, the estate draws its strength from a history dating back to the 1970s. Under the influence of the charismatic François Mitjavile, Louis’s father, the passion for wine quickly evolved into a true art of living. François, whose expertise was also showcased at the prestigious Château Tertre Roteboeuf—a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru—passed down a know-how and vision that continue to guide every decision.

The spirit of the estate is built on a respectful and innovative approach to the terroir. The Mitjavile family, renowned for their ability to valorize often-overlooked lands, also serve as advisors to other vineyards. This blend of ancestral tradition and creative modernity gives Domaine de l'Aurage a strong identity and a reputation that is constantly evolving.

Exceptional Wines and Their Expression

The estate distinguishes itself through the quality and uniqueness of its wines, true reflections of the Bordeaux terroir. The grand wine, L’Aurage, is the flagship of the property, crafted from a meticulous blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. This composition results in a wine with a balanced structure and complex aromas that combine fruity notes with spicy touches. Its finesse and aging potential allow it to stand out in the realm of great wines, even though it does not adhere to the strict regulations of Saint-Émilion Grand Cru.

The cuvée Versant, formerly known as Château Cadet, continues the legacy of the Saint-Émilion terroirs. Both accessible and rare, it offers an authentic expression of Mitjavile’s craftsmanship. Every bottle of Versant reveals the meticulous care and passion invested in its creation, delivering a unique tasting experience that highlights the estate’s distinctive character.
