Bibi Graetz - Testamatta 2022
Toscana - Super Toscan - Red Wine -In this 2022 vintage, Testamatta is a fruity wine with a citrus finish. Very elegant with very fine tannins.
According to Bibi Graetz, this 2022 vintage is the most successful he has ever made.
Tasting notes from the winemaker: Sangiovese 100% - 14% alcohol
"My idea for Testamatta is to create a wine from vineyards at the highest altitudes, in the windiest locations. In 2022, I wanted to exclude vineyards that do not fully accentuate all the typical aspects of Sangiovese, such as red berries, strawberry, cherry, raspberry, incredible freshness and notable acidity. These characteristics make this variety unique, so I decided to reduce production to focus solely on these vineyards, and I'm beyond excited because I've never made a Testamatta like this!" In this vintage, the two wines (Testamatta and Colore) are 100% Sangiovese, an indigenous grape variety often compared to Pinot Noir.
"It is a pure Sangiovese which has the class of the great wines of Burgundy. Reminiscent of La Tache de Romanée Conti" Wine Spectator.
The vineyard is located on the hills of Fiesole which overlook the city of Florence. The cellar is located in a former historic hotel.Each vineyard has been harvested up to 8 times, allowing the grapes to be hand-picked at an optimal level of ripeness.
Fermentation with indigenous yeasts in open barrels, before aging for 22 months.
The bottling of the 2022 vintage was done in March.
