Champagne Bollinger - La Grande Année 2015
Champagne - Champagne - Brut -La Grande Année 2015 is a vintage Champagne, the interpretation of an exceptional year and the embodiment of the craftsmanship of the House of Bollinger.
In 1976, Bollinger Vintage became Grande Année; then, in 1997, "La" Grande Année... A name of obvious simplicity, to better illustrate its exceptional status: because only truly exceptional years have the privilege of being vintage wines at Bollinger.
A blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, fermented entirely in barrels, Bollinger only offers vintages from high quality harvests: Bollinger's excellent 2015 vintage produces wines that are generous, full-bodied, lively and complex all at once. Racking and disgorging are done by hand.
Tasting of La Grande Année 2015:
To the eye: A golden yellow colour, reflecting the wine's maturity as well as Bollinger's winemaking methods.
To the nose: An initial nose of small stone fruits, with notes of Canadian apple, plum and mirabelle plum, punctuated by a touch of honey. This is followed by aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, cherry and raspberry, a veritable farandole of red fruit mixed with a hint of almond. On the second nose, an exotic touch of mango blends with tertiary notes of vanilla and fine oak.
On the palate: The attack is fleshy and full-bodied, with a mouth-filling flavour reminiscent of mirabelle plum jam. Texture and richness characterise the tasting. The finish combines notes of chocolate and citrus fruit, adding a touch of acidity, followed by a hint of schist.
