Bret Brothers: Juliénas "La Bottière" Cuvée Zen 2020
Beaujolais - Julienas - Red Wine -2020 is considered the "vintage of the extreme" in terms of drought periods and early harvest. However, the Beaujolais vines have shown an impressive resistance to drought, with an exceptional sanitary state at harvest time. Gamay proves its great adaptability to climatic changes.
The Juliénas climat "La Bottière" Cuvée Zen 2020 is a superb Beaujolais cru, made by the famous Domaine de la Soufrandière & Bret Brothers. Located in the northernmost part of the Beaujolais region, in the Juliénas appellation, this wine is in the purest style of old Beaujolais. The parcel located on the superb terroir of "La Bottière", perched at an altitude of 260 meters, covers an area of 0.5 hectare, for an ultra-limited production of 3694 bottles for the 2020 vintage. Vinified in whole bunches, with carbonic fermentation and slow pressing, this vintage follows the estate's "Zen Cuvée" method, meaning that the entire winemaking process is done without sulfur, the only addition of 20mg/L is at the time of bottling to stabilize the wine.
Tasting comments:
The robe: bright red color with ruby reflections.
The nose: ripe red fruit (raspberry, strawberry), some floral notes (peony) and spices
The palate: structured, greedy, easy to drink
The advice of 12Bouteilles:
To be drunk ideally around 13-14°C as an aperitif, with a piece of meat, or on the occasion of a barbecue
