The 2016 vintage is a great success and is now delicious to drink.
It has a dark red colour.
On the nose, it is intense, fresh, fruity and ripe.
On the palate, the wine is light and tasty, with plenty of flavour in the middle and a long, smooth finish.
Château La Gaffelière is owned by the Malet Roquefort family, the oldest owners of Saint-Émilion. Classified as a 1er Grand Cru B, the wines of the Château are typical Saint-Emilion wines with a predominance of Merlot.
The blend for the 2016 vintage is 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc.
La Revue du Vin de France (November 2021): 98/100 " A nose of ripe, precise fruit, with very sweet spicy notes and discreet oak. Full and well-balanced on the palate, with lovely, well-rounded tannic power. A well-balanced wine that will go a long way".
Vinous (N. Martin - January 2020): 93/100 " The 2016 Gaffelière has a more savoury bouquet, perhaps more Cabernet Franc-driven, but well-defined, with notes of cedar and sandalwood judiciously placed behind the stalky red fruit. Medium-bodied on the palate, with supple tannins and fine acidity. Fleshy and generous, it nevertheless has a fine backbone and good persistence on the finish. A Saint-Émilion that has finally found its way.
12bottle suggestion : Decant 2 hours before serving this bottle will seduce you, a pure delight with a cheese platter or white meat.
