Château Latour 2016

Bordeaux - Pauillac - 1er Cru Classé
Cru Classé - Red Wine -

Château Latour 2016 is without doubt one of the greatest bottles ever produced in Bordeaux. Tasting notes are unanimous, with the 2016 vintage rated 100/100 by James Suckling, Decanter, Vinous and Jane Anson.

This is an extra-ordinary wine, probably as mythical as the 1961s at the Château.

About the 2016 vintage:

The 2016 vintage, remarkable for the definition and concentration of the wines produced, will undoubtedly leave its mark on both tasters' palates and memories. After a mild, rainy winter, the cooler month of March led to budburst on March 24 for Merlot and March 30 for Cabrnet-Sauvignon. High temperatures in the first half of May helped plant growth, but the second half of the month was unstable and stormy, weakening health. The first week of June was dry, with temperatures between 20 and 25°C, leading to mid-flowering for Merlot on June 6, then Cabernet-Sauvignon on June 7, which was nevertheless threatened by 28 mm of rain between June 6 and 7. July was exceptionally dry and hot. However, the water content of the soils enabled the plant to withstand this extreme episode and benefit from it. September was fine and warm, and just as signs of hydric and thermal suffering were appearing, 35 mm of rain came to relieve the vines and perfect the ripening process.

Harvesting and blending:

Harvesting took place from September 22 to 30 for Merlot, and from October 7 to 19 for Cabernet-Sauvignon under ideal weather conditions. The 2016 vintage is a blend of 92.9% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 7.1% Merlot.

Tasting notes:

Appearance: Dark, intense color.

Nose: A sensual nose of violets, blueberries, rose petals and black olives.

The palate: a majestic, intense wine full of complexity. A backbone of concentrated, taut tannins on an exceptionally deep finish.

12bottle tip: Serve between 16°C and 18°C and decant 2 hours before tasting, it's the perfect accompaniment to fine red meats.

A 95-hectare vineyard, Château Latour is located in the heart of the Médoc, around 50km from Bordeaux. Premier Grand Cru classé in 1855 in the Pauillac appellation, according to the official classification, it stands at the pinnacle of Bordeaux's great wines. Constantly striving for perfection, the estate produces sublime wines that have stood the test of time and will continue to flourish.
