In this 2021 vintage,Château Montrose is a marvel, rated 95-97/100 by all the critics.
A powerful, rich wine, but perfectly balanced with plenty of freshness. One of Saint-Estèphe's greatest Classified Growths.
The grapes produced were ripe, rich and very aromatic.
To the eye, the colour is ruby red, almost black, with violet highlights.
On the nose, a mixture of black fruits and spices emerge, followed by woody and vanilla aromas.
On the palate, the attack is straightforward, round, fruity and harmonious, finishing with powerful tannins.
The blend for the 2021 vintage is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.
Ageing: 90% in new French oak barrels, 10% in tuns.
Château Montrose also produces a second wine: Dame de Montrose.
12bottle tip: Leave this bottle in your cellar for a few years, as it will improve with age. If you decide to taste it, decant it at least 6 hours before serving and serve chilled at around 16-18°C. It goes perfectly with red meats, game and cheese platters.
In the Saint Estèphe appellation, you can also discover Chateau Lafon Rochet, Château Phélan-Ségur, Château Haut-Marbuzet ou encore Château Cos d'Estournel.
