history
The story of Puech-Haut began when the founder Gérard Bru, after a career in commerce, decided to follow his dream and the footsteps of his grandfather by buying a plot of land in the Languedoc.
The parcel was not planted with vines and the terroir was not classified as AOC. The soil is only covered with olive trees and garrigue. This one seems perfect for the vine by its soil made up of clays, limestones and covered with rolled pebbles.
The olive trees were uprooted in order to plant the vines, and the farmhouse was replaced by a castle built from the stones of an old prefecture. During the works, Gérard Bru discovered a ram's head belonging to an old chapel dating from the 12th/18th century. This became the emblem of Château Puech-Haut.
Gérard Bru hired various specialists and oenologists to develop and produce unique wines in the Languedoc. Today, Château Puech-Haut is one of the most qualitative vineyards in the Languedoc, owning about 200 hectares, spread over three sectors, producing quality wines.
One vision
Three estates
With approximately 200 hectares near Montpellier, between the shores of the Mediterranean and the Cevennes mountains, Château Puech-Haut comprises three estates. All benefiting from the same clay-limestone soil and Mediterranean climate, the vines are cultivated with respect for the environment through traditional and modern know-how. The vines are on average about 35 years old, the initial grape varieties are Grenache and Syrah, Gerard Bru has purchased neighboring parcels allowing him to acquire old Carignan and plant Vionnier, Marsanne and Rousanne.
Château Puech-Haut
Château Puech-Haut is a 184-hectare property, including 92 hectares of vines, located in the commune of Saint-Drézery, between the Mediterranean and the Cévennes. The estate has an ideal Mediterranean climate, as well as a soil made of clay and limestone covered with pebbles which brings finess to the wine.
Château Lavabre
Taken over in 2017 by Château Puech-Haut, Château Lavabre is a 60-hectare property located in the Pic Saint-Loup appellation, 30km from Montpellier. Like Puech-Haut, the estate also benefits from a Mediterranean climate on mostly limestone soil.
Domaine de Theyron
30-hectare estate located in the Languedoc Saint-Christol appellation, Domaine de Theyron was purchased in 2016 by Gerard Bru. Origins dating back to the eighteenth century, the wines are grown in organic agriculture since 2010.

know-how
At Chateau Puech-Haut, the harvest is done manually. Once the grapes arrive at the winery, the vinification is based on the principle of separating the grape varieties and the plots in order to determine their potential. Some wines are not sulphated during the vinification process but at bottling. Others can be but at low doses.
For the red wines, the teams use wooden vinification vats with large openings to allow the grapes to be crushed, which is done in the traditional way: by foot or with a "pijou". The wine is then aged in barrels for 12 to 18 months.
For the rosé wines, they are elaborated in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats allowing to preserve all the quality of the pressed juice and the aromatic parts.
Finally, the white wines are elaborated in pneumatic presses. They are then aged for several months in barrels with daily and then weekly stirring.

CHÂTEAU's Cuvées
Chateau Puech-Haut produces different cuvées known as powerful and bold wines, with a lot of character, declined in red, white and rosé.
The Tête de Bélier, is an emblematic cuvée of Château Puech-Haut. Available in red, rosé and white. The reds have a dark garnet colour with a nose of ripe black fruits, and a woody, intense and generous mouth. The rosé and the white are of a beautiful rose petal colour, with a citrus nose and a beautiful aromatic complexity in the mouth.
The 40th is an exceptional vintage with a morello cherry colour and an intense bouquet of ripe red fruits. It is a well balanced and powerful red wine with good ageing potential.
Le Clos du Pic, is Robert Parker's "favourite" vintage for this estate. This red wine has an inky colour, a powerful nose of fruits, vanilla, toasted wood and a full mouth with silky tannins.
Le Loup du Pic, a cuvée benefiting from a unique terroir with a less extreme climate than other areas of Languedoc. This red wine with a cherry colour, reveals an explosion of black fruits supported by fresh and fine vanilla notes. The mouth is crisp and fruity with fine and silky tannins.
The Cuvée Prestige, made from a selection of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan, has a deep garnet colour, a nose with notes of black and red fruits and a mouth full of complexity.
The Argali cuvée is available in 3 colours. In rosé, it has a petal pink and crystalline robe, a fresh nose and a lively and crunchy mouth. In white, it has a bright, light yellow colour, an intense nose with notes of exotic fruits and a dynamic mouth with a balance between freshness and smoothness. The red has a violet colour, followed by aromas of black raspberry and a mouth oscillating between the freshness and sweetness of the fruit.
