Château d'Yquem 2021 is once again a grandiose vintage of the 1er Cru Classé de Sauternes. A vibrant, delicate wine whose signature is its crystalline freshness.

Tasting notes : Château Yquem 2021
Robe: limpid gold
Nose: a fresh, almondy initial nose, combining citrus character with hints of pineapple, pear, Ente plum and tangerine. As the wine is tasted, aromas of candied lemon and orange emerge, along with intense floral notes reminiscent of broom and gardenia flowers.
The palate: a vibrant wine. Its fresh attack and dense, unctuous mid-palate give this wine perfect balance and great finesse. Its powerful structure is extended by candied bitters that make for a long, smooth finish.
Pierre Lurton, President of Yquem declares: "freshness and delicacy are balanced here in a great vintage".
Considered to be the best sweet wine in the world, the Château d'Yquem is 1er Cru Classé of Sauternes wines.
Situated to the south of Bordeaux, the château's vineyards cover 113 hectares and are cultivated in the traditional way. One vine is needed to produce one glass of Yquem!
About the 2021 vintage:
The spring of 2021 put the winegrowers to a severe test, confronting them with all the risks inherent in winegrowing: frost, hail and mildew. Yquem's unique geographical location has nevertheless enabled the great terroirs to be preserved. From June to September, the grapes benefited from cool periods and moderate drought, giving them superb potential acidity.
Then the miracle of Botrytis cinerea took effect!
Two rainy spells in mid-September and early October spread noble rot throughout the vineyard, while a magnificent three-week anticyclonic window, marked by cool, dry and very sunny weather, allowed the grapes to concentrate slowly. These optimum weather conditions meant that the harvest could be carried out calmly, in three successive selections, between 30 September and 30 October. The full aromatic range of Botrytis cinerea is thus revealed in this vintage, guaranteeing great purity.
Tip for 12bottles: This Sauternes wine can be enjoyed both young and in a few years.
