Tasting notes: Château Yquem 2022
The fruit of an extraordinary solar vintage, Château d'Yquem 2022 stands out for its solid, powerful structure. From the very first moments of tasting, it stands out for the intensity of its roasted notes, like a seal that the high-quality noble rot has firmly affixed to it. These notes are reminiscent of candied pear, lemon and orange marmalade. From this fruit base emanate delicate floral scents of lime blossom and frangipani, sublimated by the sweetness of freshly blossomed lily of the valley. The almondy, tasty nose already foreshadows great richness on the palate. With its lively attack and candied fruit aromas, Château d'Yquem 2022 is resolutely reminiscent of apricot jam. Dense and unctuous, it coats the palate, revealing notes of beeswax, caramel and quince paste. Its powdery texture is followed by salinity and beautiful bitters on the finish, which support the expression of candied bitter orange so characteristic of Yquem wines.
Pierre Lurton, President of Yquem declares: "Freshness and delicacy are balanced here in a great vintage".
Considered the world's finest sweet wine, Château d'Yquem is a Sauternes 1er Cru Classé.
Located south of Bordeaux, the château's 113-hectare vineyard is cultivated in the traditional way, and it takes one vine to produce a glass of Yquem!
About the 2022 vintage:
"The summers of yesteryear burn in the bottles of Yquem".
Never was a vintage such a fine reflection of François Mauriac's poetic vision. For 2022 was one of those years: insane heat and prolonged drought, the succession of extreme phenomena fuelled much concern among the teams, but more than anything, generated a Château d'Yquem that was powerful, sunny and exuberant. But, more than anything else, it produced a Château d'Yquem that was powerful, sunny and exuberant.
Relentless for both man and nature, the weeks of summer 2022 brought about a ripening of the grapes that was as dazzling as it was promising. Every day, the main lines of a foretold masterpiece were being written in the vineyards. All that was needed was for the miracle-working rain to finally fall. We had to wait until the morning of October 15 for Botrytis cinerea to spread rapidly and generously. A new spell of mild weather and a steady south-easterly wind then heralded a magnificent harvest.
The legend of Château d'Yquem 2022 was thus written in a fever that became ardor, an anguish that became triumph. It carries the promise of a wine with exceptional ageing potential, like every vintage marked by the imprint of the great suns.
12bouteilles' advice: This Sauternes wine can be enjoyed both young and in later years.
