Clos Marie : Simon 2022

Languedoc - Pic Saint-Loup - Red Wine -

In this 2022 vintage, Simon by Clos Marie stands out as one of the finest expressions of the AOP Languedoc Pic Saint-Loup, a terroir shaped by Quaternary clay-limestone soils on hillside slopes. Here is the tasting we conducted:

The Appearance: purple, deep and intense.
The Nose: delicate and intensely floral, evoking wild small black fruits.
The Palate: dense and compact, finishing with a refreshing finale of candied, smoky, and cocoa aromas. The perfect embodiment of Pic Saint-Loup!

This 2022 vintage of Simon is passionately crafted by Clos Marie. Coming from a harmonious blend of 45% Grenache, 45% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre, it benefits from partial destemming tailored to each vintage and grape variety, followed by an extended maceration and meticulous punching down. This traditional approach reveals the full power and finesse of the fruit.

With elegance, the Simon 2022 cuvée embodies the richness and typicity of the Languedoc. Its balanced tannic structure and aromatic intensity promise a remarkable evolution, with an ideal consumption window recommended between 2030 and 2042. A powerful wine that enhances the character of Pic Saint-Loup.

12bouteilles' Recommendation: A red wine to be served ideally between 16 and 18 °C. Perfect when paired with red meats, eggplant gratin, or duck with olives. For a more gourmet experience, pair it with duck à l’orange, wild boar stew, grilled beef, osso bucco, or beef tongue.
