In this 2015 vintage, Clos Saint Patrice is a superb wine from the Cru of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, in a particularly generous year. Here is the tasting note we made:
The Color: deep ruby red, indicative of fine concentration.
The Nose: classically styled, offering ripe black and red fruits, complemented by peppery garrigue and leather notes.
The Palate: medium-bodied, well-concentrated, and balanced thanks to fine, silky tannins. This is a characterful wine that should easily age for around fifteen years.
This 2015 vintage of Clos Saint Patrice is made from a blend of Grenache Noir and Mourvèdre, harvested with 80% whole clusters. Following a pre-fermentation maceration and alcoholic fermentation in concrete vats, the marc is gently infused for nearly five weeks. A 16-month aging exclusively in concrete vats imparts remarkable fruit purity and lovely aromatic complexity.
Elegantly crafted, Clos Saint Patrice 2015 has its roots in a unique terroir: a very deep brown sandy soil mixed with yellow sand and scattered with rounded pebbles. The hot, dry summer of 2015, punctuated by a few beneficial storms, allowed for perfect ripeness, yielding a wine that is both powerful and fresh. Awarded 93/100 by Wine Spectator and 17.5/20 by Bettane & Desseauve, it stands among the notable successes of this vintage.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A sublime Cru from the southern part of the Rhône, signed by Clos Saint Patrice. Open it 2 hours before tasting, ideally with a fine cut of meat or game. It can also be cellared for at least 10 years, or even longer, to develop even more complexity!
