In this 2019 vintage, Clos Saint Patrice stands out as one of the finest Cru wines in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. From a year marked by a relatively rainy spring followed by a scorching, dry summer, this 2019 offers superb intensity and remarkable purity. Here is our tasting note:
The Color: deep ruby red, with lovely garnet highlights.
The Nose: classic and powerful, revealing ripe red and black fruits, subtly peppered garrigue, and leather notes.
The Palate: medium-bodied, well-concentrated, and balanced, with fine tannins. It’s a standout wine from the vintage that should gain complexity and depth over at least 15 years in the cellar.
This 2019 vintage of Clos Saint Patrice comes from a unique terroir of brown and yellow sands lying on rock, partially covered with rounded pebbles. This blend of and Mourvèdre is vinified using 80% whole clusters, followed by a pre-fermentation maceration and alcoholic fermentation exclusively in concrete vats. Gentle pump-overs and a five-week infusion of the marc extracted the full aromatic potential of the fruit, while 16 months of aging in concrete vats endow this wine with remarkable purity and elegance.
Refined in style, the Clos Saint Patrice 2019 benefits from meticulous care in the vineyard: winter plowing to aerate the soil, controlled leaf-thinning, and manual harvesting from late September to mid-October to achieve perfect phenolic ripeness.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A sublime Cru from the southern Rhône. Open it 2 hours before tasting, ideally with a fine cut of meat or game. Thanks to its concentrated texture and silky tannins, it can be cellared for at least 10 years, or even longer, to reach its peak and reveal the full complexity of its terroir.
