In this 2015 vintage, Saint Patrice is a true favorite within the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, a particularly generous year. Here is the tasting note we wrote:
The Color: deep ruby red, with slightly garnet highlights.
The Nose: classic and powerful, marked by well-ripened red and black fruits, set against a backdrop of peppery garrigue and leather notes.
The Palate: medium to full-bodied, well-concentrated, and perfectly balanced, with fine, silky tannins. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, easily lasting for 15 years.
This 2015 vintage of Saint Patrice is made from a blend of Noir, Mourvèdre, and Syrah, harvested between 30% and 60% in whole clusters depending on the grape variety. Pre-fermentation macerations and alcoholic fermentation take place exclusively in concrete vats, with gentle pump-overs and extended infusion for nearly five weeks. A 16-month maturation in concrete vats, foudres, demi-muids, and French oak barrels contributes to the impressive complexity of this characterful wine.
Elegantly crafted, this Châteauneuf-du-Pape benefits from a varied terroir: clay-sandy soils, rounded pebbles, limestone, and even some nuances of white and yellow clay. The result is a solid structure and great aromatic freshness, despite a particularly hot, sunny summer in 2015.
Bettane & Desseauve: 17/20 – The Wine Advocate: 92 pts
The 12bouteilles Advice: A sublime Cru from the southern part of the Rhône. We recommend opening it 2 hours before tasting, ideally to accompany a fine cut of meat or game. It can be cellared for at least 10 years, or even longer, to gain even more finesse and depth!
