In this 2019 vintage, Saint Patrice is a superb expression of the Côtes du Rhône appellation. Coming from a terroir composed of gravelly subsoils, red clay, and sandstone covered with pebbles and rounded stones, this wine perfectly illustrates the complementary nature of the Les Champauvins, Le Coudoulet, and Boisfeuillet plots. Here is our tasting note:
The Color: deep ruby with lovely garnet highlights.
The Nose: rich and expressive, combining ripe red fruits, spicy notes, and a subtle hint of licorice.
The Palate: broad and well-structured, supported by fine tannins. The balance between freshness and roundness brings out cherry, plum, and black pepper aromas, creating a harmonious and promising whole. This wine will gracefully evolve over a good ten years.
This 2019 vintage of Saint Patrice is made from a blend of Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, and Syrah, partly harvested in whole clusters (about 40%), then macerated in concrete vats for 5 weeks, followed by 14 months of aging in French oak barrels. This careful vinification preserves the aromatic intensity and the fruit’s natural freshness.
Elegantly crafted, the Saint Patrice cuvée confirms the pursuit of a subtle and refined wine, supported by an exceptional terroir and meticulous work in the vineyard. Phenolic maturity is achieved with precision, thanks to close monitoring of the vines from the beginning of winter through the October harvest.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A superb Southern Rhône cuvée, best decanted 1 to 2 hours before tasting to release its full aromatic complexity. Ideal with a fine cut of meat, a saucy dish, or game, this 2019 Saint Patrice can also be cellared for about ten years—or even longer—to develop even greater harmony.
