In this 2023 vintage, the Les Creisses Rouge by Domaine des Creisses stands out as an authentic and refined expression of an exceptional terroir, where the influence of the Terrasses Villafranchiennes subtly blends with the strength of the clay-limestone plateau. Here is the tasting we conducted:
The Appearance: a deep, vibrant, and luminous red.
The Nose: complex and generous, revealing aromas of ripe dark fruits, spices, and a subtle hint of garrigue.
The Palate: full and meaty, with silky tannins and a persistent finish that attests to the harmony between structure and elegance.
This 2023 vintage of Les Creisses Rouge is crafted from a meticulous blend: 30% Syrah (vines aged 13 to 27 years), 30% Cabernet-Sauvignon (30 years), 25% Grenache (21 to 39 years), complemented by 4% Caladoc (26 years), 3% Marselan Alicante (8 years), 4% Mourvèdre (24 years) and 4% Carignan (62 years). These grape varieties, cultivated on soils combining sands, pebbles, and clay-limestone substrates, benefit from a reasoned protection system – minimal pruning, cover cropping on every second row, and organic amendments – ensuring a perfect balance between vine training and maturity.
The vintage, marked by a dry and sunny climate – with only about 300 mm of rainfall – took advantage of a June storm and a providential shower of 30 mm in mid-September, allowing the vines to develop under ideal conditions. The harvest, always destemmed, is vinified after a 20-day maceration, thus extracting all the desired aromatic richness and tannic structure. The aging, lasting from 13 to 19 months since December 2023, endows this cuvée with remarkable complexity and aging potential.
The Estate's Recommendation: Serve ideally between 16 and 18 °C. Perfect when paired with red meats, stewed dishes, or aged cheeses, this characterful wine elevates every moment of conviviality and sharing.
