Rhone Valley - Châteauneuf-du-Pape - Red Wine -Piedlong 2017 is a fantastic wine made by the Brunier Family, superstar of Châteauneuf-du-Pape acclaimed vintage after vintage by the critics.
This 2017 vintage is a pure marvel from a combination of 70-year-old Grenache (90%) and 50-year-old Mourvèdre (10%).
Tasting note: Châteauneuf-du- Pape perfectly pitched between richness, freshness, robustness and femininity, velvet and minerality.
The tradmark, old-vine-grenache offering of earthy notes with wild berries, herbs, flowers and spices. Wild. Hints of blood oranges and pink-grapefruit peel. Superb, expansive palate shape, all finesse and length. Super-fine, focused and elegant. Refined, regal and majestic. Peppery, bright, wild, red fruit, blood oranges and orange bitters. Decades ahead of this. Drink of hold.

Yields were a paltry 12 hectoliters per hectare in the Brunier's Piedlong parcel, so the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Piedlong contains only 85% Grenache (50% whole cluster), while the balance is Mourvèdre. It offers a lovely array of floral and herbal notes layered over raspberry and cherry fruit on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied but seemingly weightless. Fine and elegant already, it finishes long, with pure, almost crystalline lattice-like fruit and silky tannins.
