Ferraton Pere et fils : Ermitage, Le Meal 2018
Rhone Valley - Hermitage - Red Wine -L'Ertmitage Le Méal 2018 is a great parcel wine by Ferraton et Fils. Le Méal is one of the very large plots of L'Ermitage, whose 100% Syrah wines are recognized as the elite of the appellation.
L'Ermitage, Le Méal 2018 from the Ferraton Père & Fils estate is a 100% Syrah red wine, vines around 30 years old and grafted on site. An exceptional vineyard, converted to organic farming since 1998 in the process of being converted to Biodynamics.
Tasting note:
Colour: brilliant, very intense ruby.
Nose: small black fruits, some leather notes.
Mouth: very present tannins, slightly woody.
Lots of breadth and structure, long aging wine.
Vinification & Ageing:
Destemmed harvest, vinified in concrete vats (for better thermal inertia) for about 4 weeks (depending on the vintage). Extraction by pumping over and punching down.
Aging in barrels lasts 14 to 18 months depending on the vintage (30 to 50% new barrels).
Wine Advocate-Parker: 95/100
The most backward and perplexing of Ferraton's Hermitage bottlings is the 2018 Ermitage Le Méal, which offers up herbal, minty notes alongside raspberry fruit. This full-bodied wine comes across as overly vegetal at this stage of its evolution, although the richness on the palate and its smooth, silky feel provides a sense of balance and suggests that if this is just a phase, even better things may lie ahead .
The advice of 12bouteilles: Serving temperature 14°-15°C. Aging potential 10 to 15 years. An immense wine signed by Maison Ferraton.
