Génot-Boulanger: Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières 2018
Burgundy - Puligny Montrachet - 1er Cru - White Wine -The 2018 vintage is a nice vintage for Burgundian white wines; a year that is both productive and qualitative. A warm vintage but marked by frequent watering, having led to ripe, well-formed fruit in very good health. 2018 also marks the first year of organic farming certification for the estate.
This 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Folatières" from Domaine Génot-Boulanger comes from a parcel of Chardonnay vines planted in the 1970s, with a total surface area of 0.35 hectares, ideally facing south-east. The name comes from "foletière" in old French, which is said to be a place haunted by "follets", legendary beings that the collective imagination saw dancing above the stagnant waters of the plot in wet weather. Certainly the greatest parcel in Puligny...
After 12 months of ageing in barrels, the wines are sub-drawn and then transferred to vats to conclude the ageing process with 6 additional months. The will of the Domaine Génot-Boulanger is to vinify its wines in the least interventionist way possible, thus the wines are not filtered.
Tasting comments:
The robe: pale yellow with silver reflections
The nose: white flower (jasmine, almond flower), minerality, expressive
The mouth: straight, chiselled, greedy of an impressive finesse, a lot of freshness
The advice of 12bouteilles:
A Puligny-Montrachet of extreme finesse, which will sublimate a noble fish or even seafood.
