Génot-Boulanger: Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne 2018
Burgundy - Puligny Montrachet - 1er Cru - White Wine -The 2018 vintage was a favorable year for the whites of the Burgundy vineyard; both quantitatively and qualitatively. A hot vintage but marked by a significant and regular rainfall that allowed to compensate, bringing the fruit to maturity, without sanitary problems (very little Mildew this year). The year 2018 also marks the first certified organic vintage for Domaine Génot-Boulanger.
This 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Garenne" from Domaine Génot-Boulanger comes from a parcel of Chardonnay planted in 1991, with a total surface area of 0.37 hectares, ideally facing southeast. The name comes from the medieval Latin "Warenna" which designates a wood bordered by walls or hedges, exclusively reserved for the lords for hunting small game and more particularly rabbits; hence the "rabbit warren".
The maturing of the white wines is done in two stages within the domain. First of all, the wine is aged in barrels for 12 months, then it is sub-drawn and finally transferred to tanks where it is aged for another 6 months. This great Burgundian estate aims to vinify its wines in the least interventionist way possible, which is partly why the wines are not filtered.
Tasting notes:
The robe: pale yellow with silver highlights.
The nose: expressive notes of lemon, pear but also of white flowers (jasmine)
The mouth: ample, fresh, long with a beautiful minerality
The advice of 12bouteilles:
Lighter than the Puligny-Montrachet "Les Folatières", this cuvée offers a great moment of delicacy, sumptuous on a noble fish or even shellfish.
