Opus One 2019
California - Napa Valley - Red Wine -Opus One was created by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, legendary owner of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, and renowned Napa Valley wine producer Robert Mondavi; with the goal of creating an exceptional wine in the heart of Napa Valley. Opus One is truly the fruit of a shared passion.
It is arguably the most renowned wine in California, if not the United States, and is made from 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 8% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec. In the pure style of great Bordeaux wines, Opus One 2019, undergoes a long aging in French oak barrels (100% new barrels) for 19 months.
Tasting Notes:
The robe: deep red with garnet highlights
The nose: intense aromas of black plum, blueberry, black currant, and dried petals, accentuated by mineral nuances
The palate: a creamy texture reveals a soft acidity and fine tannins. There is a subtle tension among flavors of dark fruits, fresh herbs, espresso, and cocoa. A delicate dark chocolate bitterness lingers on the finish
Focus on 2019 vintage:
Heavy spring rains (nearly double the annual average) saturated the soil and provided enough water for the season. The first signs of bud break were observed on March 27; 15 days later than usual. This delay led to a later flowering and veraison. However, higher temperatures at the end of the summer accelerated development and ripening. The harvest started on September 10th, a few days earlier than average. They lasted four weeks.
The advice of 12Bouteilles: Opus One 2019 will sublimate a piece of red meat, a game or a cheese platter. Remember to open the wine a few hours before tasting and serve around 16°C to 18°C.
