Domaine Philippe Alliet :
More than ever, one of the benchmarks of the Loire region. The Alliet family - Claude, Philippe and their son Pierre - are dedicated to the cause of great Cabernet Franc wines. The coteau-de-noiré, on a south-facing clay-limestone terroir, is a benchmark for its nuanced intensity and ageing potential.
2* in the Guide Hachette - Remarkable!
"The discreet Claude and Philippe Alliet made their mark by creating a new style in Chinon in the 1990s. Their cuvées Vieilles Vignes (gravel, vines 70 to 90 years old, 18 months in concrete vats), L'Huisserie (hilltop and flinty clay plateau) and especially Coteau de Noiré (steep, south-facing clay-limestone slope), seduced Cabernet Franc lovers with their dark color and incredible density. But there's no set recipe for this fine taster and outstanding winemaker, supported by his son, Pierre, since 2005, who helps him shape ever deeper, more tactfully stylized wines. From 2010 onwards, Bordeaux barrels will be replaced by 500-l barrels, and the proportion of new wood will be greatly reduced".
