Stephane Ogier : Collection 9 Côte-Rôtie "Sélection de Lieux-Dits" 2020
Rhone Valley - Côte-Rôtie - Red Wine -Stéphane Ogier Caisse N°224/1043
This case collection of 9 Côte-Rôtie "Selection de Lieux-Dits" in the 2020 vintage is a collection of fantastic red wines produced by Stéphane Ogier in the Rhône Valley. These 100% Syrahs are gourmet, elegant wines full of freshness.
Produced in rare quantities, only 1043 cases are available for this 2020 vintage.
But de Mont 2020 - Note : 98/100 Jeb Dunnuck
This is the only wine from the Côte-Blonde in the Lieux-Dits Sélection case, an incredible style with wonderful complexity, depth and structure. Black raspberries, redcurrants, grilled meats, graphite and some fleshy notes define the aromatics of this cuvee. The palate is concentrated and opulent, with a long finish. This is certainly the finest wine tasted from this vineyard.
Fongeant 2020 - Note : 99/100 Jeb Dunnuck
Absolutely divine juice, a singular bouquet of darker redcurrants, white truffles, rare steak and a hint of iron. The result is a full-bodied, full-bodied, seamlessly structured Côte-Rôtie with fabulous tannins and incredible length. This gem has to be drunk to be believed.
Côte-Bodin 2020 - Note 94/100 Jeb Dunnuck
From a parcel further south in La Landonne, a very floral and fruity aromatic framework ranging from red fruits (strawberries, raspberries) to violets and rose petals. Notes of tapenade, iron and spices also emerge. This is a medium to full-bodied wine with good acidity and supple tannins.
Cognet 2020 - Note : 95/100 Jeb Dunnuck
From a lieu-dit in the north of the appellation and fermented with lots of stalks, a classic bouquet of redcurrants, blackberries as well as dried meats, leather, iron and yeast. This rich, medium to full-bodied Côte-Rôtie has fine but well-crafted tannins and a superb finish.
Montmains 2020 - Note : 95/100 Jeb Dunnuck
Coming from a gateway in the north of the appellation and fermented with its stems, it is more floral and elegant. Black raspberries, iron and old flowers appear on the nose. The palate is elegant and silky, with ultra-fine tannins. This Côte-Rôtie will be a fine wine to drink over the next 15-20 years.
La Viallière 2020 - Note : 96+/100 Jeb Dunnuck
One of the most mineral cuvées, with an aromatic framework of red and black fruits and floral notes of violet and rose, following the typical profile of a Côte-Rôtie with fleshy nuances. Tannic, vibrant and straightforward, with perfect balance and great density. It will need 4-5 years of bottle ageing and will evolve over the next two decades.
Leyat 2020 - Note 97/100 Jeb Dunnuck
Situated just above Côte-Bodin (near Fongeant), a rich and incredibly fruity profile, including blackberry and redcurrant, tons of graphite, hints of scorched earth and fleshy nuances. A full-bodied, powerful wine with enough structure to justify at least 4-5 years' bottle ageing.
Bertholon 2020 - Note 96/100 Jeb Dunnuck
This parcel contains a lot of clay in its mica-schist. Fermented with its own stalks, it has magnificent aromas of smoky black fruit, tapenade and iron, with a beautiful, rich, powerful, full-bodied structure. This Côte-Rôtie will need time to mature in bottle but is already showing great potential.
Le Champon 2020 - Note : 97/100 Jeb Dunnuck
From the plot that is always harvested last, fermented with the stalks and matured in demi-muids. This incredibly elegant cuvée has aromas of black fruit, iron, black olive and truffle with a hint of floral notes. Full-bodied, structured and faultless, it offers fine acidity, supple tannins and a lovely finish. Concentrated and tightly wound, it will need bottle ageing to reveal its true potential.
