In this 2019 vintage, Plantabelle from Gérard Bertrand stands out as one of the finest gems of the AOP Languedoc Cabrières appellation in a remarkable year. Here is the tasting note we made:
The Color: dark, violet-tinged in its youth, tending toward tile-like highlights over time.
The Nose: dominated by ripe black fruits, garrigue, and menthol notes, revealing impressive aromatic intensity.
The Palate: medium-bodied, combining density and elegance, underpinned by silky tannins. The persistent finish reveals hints of licorice and roasted coffee, indicating lovely complexity. The wine should gracefully evolve for at least 10 to 15 years.
This 2019 vintage of Plantabelle is made from a blend of Grenache Noir and Syrah. True to Gérard Bertrand’s expertise, the grapes are hand-harvested and placed in small-capacity crates. After destemming, a 7–10-day maceration is carried out to extract color, aromas, and structure. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 12 months, enhancing its complexity. Bottling takes place at the end of this maturation period, and the wine is released one year later to ensure perfect readiness.
Elegantly crafted, Plantabelle reflects the typicity of the Cabrières terroir: schist-based colluvial soils, optimal sunshine, and natural ventilation, ensuring perfect phenolic maturity. Low yields, biodynamic viticulture, and a selection of old-vine Grenache and Syrah vines contribute greatly to the personality of this cuvée.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A sublime wine from Languedoc, best decanted for an hour or two before serving. Ideal with wild boar terrine, hare à la Royale, or a bold cheese like truffle Brie, it can be cellared for at least 10 years to reveal its full range of nuances and aromatic depth.
