In this 2021 vintage, La Sauvageonne “La Villa” is a superb achievement by Gérard Bertrand, showcasing all the richness of the appellation in a highly promising year.
La Sauvageonne la Villa is a certified organic (Ecocert FR BIO 01) and biodynamic (Demeter) wine.
Here is our tasting note:
The Color: an intense, deep red with a brilliant sheen.
The Nose: clear, soft, and silky, driven by strawberry aromas and a delicate garrigue touch.
The Palate: medium-bodied, perfectly balanced, revealing a lovely aromatic length. The attack is clean, supported by noble flavors of red fruits and wild herbs, underpinned by a fresh backbone.
This 2021 vintage of La Sauvageonne “La Villa” is made from a blend of Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, and Syrah. The estate is located northwest of Montpellier at an altitude of between 150 and 350 meters, covering 9.6 hectares. It benefits from two types of soil: “ruffes,” which are very free-draining and mineral-rich, and deeper sandstone and schist soils that allow for water retention. Being far from the sea and close to the Causse du Larzac brings cool nights, ideal for slow, gradual ripening of the grapes. Its alcohol degree is 15.5%, a sign of power and concentration while preserving the fruit’s elegance.
Refined and elegant, La Sauvageonne “La Villa” here expresses a subtle, delicate style, reflecting an exceptional terroir and meticulous work in both the vineyard and cellar. With this cuvée, Gérard Bertrand confirms his aim to craft southern wines that are at once powerful and harmonious.
The 2021 vintage is a real favorite: “An archetype of a great Larzac wine, it captivates with its deep nose, tight tannins, and aging potential.”
The 12bouteilles Advice: A sublime Languedoc wine from Gérard Bertrand. Open it 1 to 2 hours before tasting, ideally with a fine cut of meat, a slow-cooked dish, or game. It can be cellared for 8 to 10 years—or even longer—to develop further complexity!
