In this 2020 vintage, Clos d’Ora ranks among the greatest wines from the Cru of the Minervois La Livinière appellation in a remarkable year.
Clos d'Ora is a certified organic (Ecocert FR BIO 01) and biodynamic (Demeter) wine.
Here is our tasting note of the 2020 vintage
The Color: a deep, brilliant ruby red.
The Nose: beautiful aromas of ripe black fruits, elevated by spicy notes and an elegant touch of garrigue.
The Palate: powerful yet refined, supported by smooth, subtle tannins. This wine offers remarkable breadth and length on the palate, suggesting a cellaring potential of at least 15 years.
This 2020 vintage of Clos d’Ora is made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan. Entirely hand-picked, the harvest is preceded by leaf removal to optimize ripeness. Each grape variety and parcel is vinified separately in concrete vats, with destemming for the Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, and whole-cluster maceration for the Carignan. Extraction is carefully controlled to maintain finesse and elegance. After a 5-to-6-week vatting period, the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. The final blend is made after the spring equinox, in the following order: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, then Carignan.
Elegantly crafted, this 2020 Clos d’Ora embodies Gérard Bertrand’s philosophy, cultivated on 9 hectares of biodynamic vineyards at an altitude of 220 meters, enclosed by dry-stone walls. A respectful approach—using horses and mules to work the soil—contributes to the full expression of this unique terroir, composed of limestone, sandstone, and marl.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A sublime Cru from Languedoc, best opened 2 hours before tasting, alongside a fine cut of meat or game. It can be cellared for at least 10 to 15 years—or even more—to develop further complexity!
