In this 2022 vintage, Château L’Hospitalet Grand Vin Blanc ranks among the finest successes of the AOP , an exceptional terroir overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Here is our tasting note:
The Color: a pale, luminous gold.
The Nose: powerful yet fresh, opening with citrus and white-fleshed fruit aromas (pear, quince), enhanced by subtle notes of garrigue, anise, and toasted hazelnuts.
The Palate: superbly refined, boasting a lovely saline minerality. Nuances of white pepper and flint bring a distinctive character, while the finish, marked by acacia honey notes, delights with its freshness.
This 2022 vintage of Château L’Hospitalet Grand Vin Blanc is made from a blend of Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, and Vermentino, farmed according to biodynamic principles (Demeter certification). The grapes are hand-picked, varietal by varietal, at optimal ripeness, then gently pressed, with press juice separated upon arrival at the winery. After a light settling, alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrels at controlled temperatures, preserving the wine’s aromatic freshness. The barrel aging (7 to 8 months) includes regular stirring of the lees for the first two months, before bottling in spring.
Elegantly crafted, this Gérard Bertrand cuvée draws on the diversity of marl-limestone and Mediterranean soils at Château L’Hospitalet: rich in fossils and compact gray-blue limestone, they impart complexity, freshness, and concentration to the wine. The semi-arid Mediterranean climate, moderated by the sea’s proximity and the vineyard’s altitude, completes this exceptional setting.
The 12bouteilles Advice: Serve this sublime white at 11°C to accompany seared scallops, fish in sauce, or simply as an aperitif. Its potential to age for several years will allow it to develop even greater aromatic complexity over time.
