In this 2022 vintage, Le Viala stands out as one of the finest crus from Minervois La Livinière, a benchmark appellation in Languedoc.
Le Viala is a certified organic (Ecocert FR BIO 01) and biodynamic (Demeter) wine.
Here is our tasting notes of the 2022 vintage:
The Color: a deep garnet hue that catches the light.
The Nose: powerful and expressive, unveiling notes of licorice, violet, and orange blossom.
The Palate: a lovely initial attack, with smooth, subtly oaked tannins, remarkable balance, and a delicately toasted finish. This wine offers excellent aging potential of at least 10 to 15 years.
This 2022 vintage of Le Viala is crafted from a blend dominated by Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan. The grapes are hand-harvested following close monitoring of ripeness and regular berry tastings. Part of the Syrah and the Carignan are vinified in whole clusters, while the Grenache undergoes a traditional maceration. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, carefully selected each vintage. It is neither fined nor filtered before bottling, and then rests another 12 months in the cellar prior to release.
Elegantly crafted, this flagship wine from Château Laville Bertrou comes from an exceptional parcel facing due south at an altitude of 120 m. The soil, composed of marl, calcareous sandstone, and compact limestone, imparts both power and complexity, while naturally keeping yields low. The Mediterranean climate allows for a slow ripening process that ensures both freshness and balance. In Le Viala, you can taste the essence of this rare terroir, beautifully highlighting the Languedoc’s richness and subtlety.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A sublime cru from the South of France, produced by Gérard Bertrand. Decant it for 1 to 2 hours before serving at an ideal temperature of 18°C to fully reveal its aromatic complexity. It pairs perfectly with a fine cut of grilled red meat, game, or aged cheeses. Feel free to cellar it for an additional decade—or even longer—to unlock its full potential.
