In this 2022 vintage, La Forge is one of Gérard Bertrand’s standout successes from the -Boutenac appellation—a true Cru of the Languedoc, known for its tightly controlled yields.
Clos d'Ora is a certified organic (Ecocert FR BIO 01) and biodynamic (Demeter) wine.
Here is our tasting note:
The Color: a deep, almost opaque red with ripe cherry highlights.
The Nose: explosive and complex, combining notes of toasted bread, sweet spices, and clove, underpinned by a very enticing jammy fruit character.
The Palate: full and generous, with soft tannins and a lovely sweetness. You’ll find stewed red fruit aromas and a long, spicy finish. This outstanding wine promises aging potential of at least 10 to 15 years.
This 2022 vintage of La Forge is a blend of Noir, Carignan (from old vines of nearly 80 years), and Syrah. Yields are deliberately kept low (25 hl/ha) through green harvesting, ensuring perfect ripeness and impressive concentration. Hand-harvested, the grapes then undergo 10 to 12 months of aging in 225-liter Bordeaux barrels, selected from top coopers to reveal the full potential of this exceptional terroir. No fining or filtration takes place before bottling, followed by a 12-month resting period at the estate.
Elegantly crafted, this cuvée proudly represents Domaine de Villemajou—Gérard Bertrand’s historic family estate and a flagship of AOP Corbières-Boutenac. The natural concentration of these old vines, combined with meticulous winemaking, endows La Forge 2022 with rare aromatic power and complexity.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A sublime Cru from the south of Languedoc. Decant it 2 hours before tasting to appreciate all its nuances, and serve around 18°C with a rack of lamb, grilled meats, or Mediterranean cuisine. You can cellar this wine for at least 10 years—or even longer—to fully enjoy its evolution and increased complexity!
