Gérard Bertrand : La Sauvageonne Grand Vin Blanc 2023

Languedoc - Languedoc - White Wine -

In this 2023 vintage, La Sauvageonne Grand Vin Blanc, Organic white wine stands among Gérard Bertrand’s finest successes in the Languedoc region, owing to an exceptional terroir and meticulous winemaking. Here is our tasting note:

The Color: a clear light yellow with lovely golden reflections.
The Nose: highly complex and fragrant, dominated by citrus and white flower notes, complemented by a delicate floral touch.
The Palate: a beautiful balance between richness and freshness, with a round, silky texture. The lemony aromas carry through on the palate, underscored by subtle toasty hints on the finish. This cuvée will continue to improve over several years.

This 2023 vintage of La Sauvageonne Grand Vin Blanc is a blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Vermentino, and Viognier. The grapes, harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, undergo a gentle pressing to retain only the very first and highest-quality juices. After a brief settling period, fermentation spans 15 to 30 days, depending on clarity and temperature. Midway through fermentation, a portion of the must is transferred to 225-liter barrels for about six months of lees aging, with regular stirring (bâtonnage). The final blend is then bottled relatively early to preserve its lovely freshness and intense fruitiness.

Elegantly crafted, La Sauvageonne Grand Vin Blanc owes its personality to a climate tempered by the proximity of the Causse du Larzac. Cooler nights promote a slow ripening process, ensuring a remarkable balance between aromatic intensity and freshness.

The 12bouteilles Advice: A top-tier white from the Languedoc, perfect to pair with grilled fish, shellfish, or simply enjoyed as an aperitif. Serve well chilled, and don’t hesitate to cellar it for a few years—it will gain further complexity and roundness!
