In this 2022 vintage, Orange Gold white organic wine makes a striking debut in Gérard Bertrand’s range, with an unprecedented style and an orange hue tinged with golden reflections. Here is our tasting note:
The Color: surprising, a radiant orange adorned with golden highlights that immediately catch the eye.
The Nose: an appealing aromatic complexity combining white flowers, candied fruits, and a subtle touch of white pepper.
The Palate: fresh and pleasing, marked by nicely defined flavors. Its balance is highlighted by a fine tannic structure, stemming from whole-bunch maceration. We appreciate the smooth texture that delicately envelops the palate, and the lengthy finish lifted by a slightly bitter note that adds a stimulating edge.
This 2022 Orange Gold is crafted from a unique blend of Mediterranean grape varieties: Chardonnay, Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Marsanne, Mauzac, and Muscat. Inspired by an ancestral winemaking technique, the maceration of white grapes in whole clusters—much like a red wine—gives this wine its distinctive orange color and fine, singular tannic profile. Certified organic, Orange Gold reflects Gérard Bertrand’s commitment to meticulous vineyard work and an authentic expression of each terroir.
Elegantly crafted, this cuvée stands out for its finesse and subtle aromatic profile. Gérard Bertrand pays homage to the original orange wines first produced in Georgia 4,500 years ago while offering a modern, radiant version that’s perfectly mastered.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A characterful wine perfect as an aperitif at around 10°C, served with cheese boards or paired with exotic, spicy dishes such as Indian or Asian cuisine. Chilled slightly, it reveals all its freshness and minerality. You can enjoy it now for its fruit-forward character, though it also has the potential to gain complexity over a few years.
