From a vineyard cultivated biodynamically and designed from the start to produce a high-end wine, it perfectly illustrates the pursuit of finesse and complexity. Here is our tasting note:
The Color: clear, with a lovely golden hue.
The Nose: offers woody, buttery notes, along with white and yellow stone fruits (peach, apricot) complemented by delicate floral nuances.
The Palate: a superb balance of freshness and roundness, with a supple attack. The mid-palate is taut and slightly saline, highlighting buttery Chardonnay aromas along with hints of apricot and white flowers, all underscored by toasted nuances.
This 2023 Cigalus Blanc is a blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, and Sauvignon. Hand-harvested grapes are pneumatically pressed upon arrival at the winery. After a brief static settling, 70% of the juice ferments in new barrels, while the remainder is vinified in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is carried out, and barrel aging continues for 7 to 8 months—until the spring equinox—with regular lees stirring (bâtonnage). A light fining takes place before bottling, preserving the wine’s aromatic purity and freshness.
Elegantly crafted, the 2023 Cigalus Blanc perfectly reflects the hot, sunny Mediterranean climate that benefits the estate. Deep soils, predominantly calcareous sandstone, allow for early ripening of the grapes while maintaining deliberately low yields (25 hl/ha) to extract their very essence.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A great white from Languedoc, signed by Gérard Bertrand. Ideally served at 10–12°C, whether as an aperitif or paired with sauced fish or seared scallops. Its potential to age for a few years will allow it to develop additional complexity and roundness.
