In this 2023 vintage, Gérard Bertrand’s Clos du Temple emerges as one of the finest rosés in the Languedoc Cabrières appellation, a historical and distinctive terroir. Clos du Temple is a certified organic (Ecocert FR BIO 01) and biodynamic (Demeter) wine.
Here is our tasting note:
The Color: a luminous, brilliant pale pink.
The Nose: superbly complex, combining red fruit notes, blackcurrant, and exotic fruits such as pineapple. A mineral thread also reveals itself, adding freshness and purity.
The Palate: both elegant and deep, with a silky texture. The balance between liveliness and softness is remarkable, and the long finish hints at significant aging potential.
This 2023 vintage of Clos du Temple is made from a blend of Noir (45%), Cinsault (41%), Syrah (5%), Mourvèdre (5%), and Viognier (4%). Hand harvesting in the early morning takes advantage of the cool nighttime temperatures and preserves the grapes’ aromatic quality. After a stint in a cold room, only the finest free-run juice is selected, followed by fermentation at low temperature with almost no sulfites, then 6 months of aging in new barrels on fine lees. This biodynamic, nature-respecting approach allows for a profound expression of Cabrières’ unique terroir.
Elegantly crafted, Clos du Temple owes its singular character to the geological diversity of its vineyard—schist, limestone, and hilly terrain—as well as its 240-meter altitude, which imparts exceptional aromatic freshness to this rosé. Biodynamic cultivation, along with the use of horses and mules, creates harmony among mineral, plant, animal, and human, contributing to the remarkable balance of this exceptional wine.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A premium rosé from Languedoc by Gérard Bertrand. Serve it well-chilled (around 10°C) to showcase its aromas; it pairs beautifully with grilled fish, Mediterranean dishes, or Asian cuisine. Thanks to its excellent structure, it can be cellared for several years to develop even more complexity.
