In this 2022 vintage, Château L’Hospitalet Grand Vin Rouge is red organic and biodynamic wine, a must-try in the appellation in Languedoc, crafted by Gérard Bertrand. Here is our tasting note:
The Color: a brilliant ruby red with radiant highlights.
The Nose: intense spicy and red-fruit aromas, especially ripe strawberry, combined with a subtle hint of garrigue.
The Palate: medium-bodied, featuring silky tannins and remarkable fruity freshness. This fleshy, well-balanced wine stands out for its elegant structure, promising excellent cellaring potential—at least a decade.
This 2022 vintage of Château L’Hospitalet Grand Vin is a blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah, all hand-harvested at peak ripeness. After a rigorous sorting, the grapes are destemmed and then macerate for 20 to 25 days in temperature-controlled vats. The wine is subsequently aged for 12 to 16 months in new 225-liter barrels in the stunning L’Hospitalet cellar, before the best barrels are selected to create this exceptional cuvée.
Elegantly crafted, the L’Hospitalet Grand Vin benefits from a unique terroir, perched about a hundred meters above the Mediterranean Sea. The marl-limestone and Mediterranean red soils give this wine a remarkable balance of finesse, aromatic complexity, and controlled power.
The 12bouteilles Advice: A benchmark Cru in Languedoc: open or decant it 2 hours before serving to release its full aromatic range. It pairs perfectly with rack of lamb, feathered game, or aged cheeses, and can be cellared for 10 years or more to gain additional roundness and complexity!
