THE HISTORY
In 1843, Joseph Krug, a visionary and non-conformist, founded the House with an uncompromising philosophy. His ambition was to produce the best Champagne every year, regardless of climatic fluctuations. Joseph Krug made his dream come true by paying meticulous attention to the personality of each vineyard, preserving the uniqueness of each plot and its wine, while building up a vast library of reserve wines from different years.
In 1844, the first Krug harvest marked a turning point, making Joseph Krug's dream come true and giving birth to Champagne Krug Grande Cuvée. The first reinterpretation of this emblematic cuvée, known as the First Edition, was created around the harvest of 1845. Each year, a new Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée is created, with a unique blend and bottling. As he explicitly stated in his diary in 1848, Joseph Krug had no particular preference for one of his Champagnes over another.
In 1999, Éric Lebel succeeded Henri Krug and led the House brilliantly as Chef de Caves until 1 January 2020. After 14 years at Éric Lebel's side and 14 editions of Krug Grande Cuvée, Julie Cavil was appointed Chef de Caves, assuming the role of guardian of the house style. Each year, she creates with the palette of the vintage, starting from a blank page to reproduce "the most generous expression that Champagne can offer".
Today, the House offers seven Champagnes, all of unrivalled quality, each representing a unique expression of nature.
Olivier Krug, representing the sixth generation of the Krug family and holding the position of Director of the House, opens the doors of the family home in Reims to welcome Krug enthusiasts from all over the world.

THE PROPERTY
Krug Champagne is located in Reims, in the heart of the Champagne region of France. Founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, this iconic champagne house is steeped in rich history and family tradition. The estate extends over carefully selected vineyards, each parcel contributing to the unique and complex blend of Krug cuvées.
Krug's historic cellar, dug into the chalk of the Champagne region, is home to a treasure trove of carefully preserved vintages. The cellars offer ideal conditions for ageing champagne, contributing to the creation of exceptional cuvées.
In his diary, Joseph Krug set out the philosophy that a "good House" should restrict itself to two cuvées: a constant one each year, expressing the unique signature of the House, and a second conceived "according to circumstances", revealing the singularity of each vintage produced.

THE SINGULARITY OF THE KRUG MAISON
Joseph Krug, the founder, was convinced that only meticulous attention to every detail would enable him to offer the fullest expression of champagne every year, with optimum quality, regardless of climatic variations.
Joseph Krug initiated the creation of a collection of reserve wines to which six generations have contributed their expertise. This library currently contains 150 wines, each reflecting the unique personality of an individual parcel. The fundamental concept of Krug's savoir-faire is based on individuality, transforming the harvest of each parcel into a distinct wine, following its individual character before judicious blending.
The Cellar Master carefully identifies the wines from single parcels that can add value to the year's creations. Some are chosen to be preserved as reserve wines for later use, while others, which do not meet the desired profile, are discarded.

JULIE CAVIL - Maitre de cave krug
Currently, Julie Cavil, Maître de Cave Krug, works in the same way, using nearly 400 wines, most of which reflect the essence of a single parcel. The House of Krug is firmly committed to preserving the distinct identity of each element that goes into the making of each edition, ensuring that the character of each component is meticulously respected.
Throughout the year, Julie and her team of 5-6 winemakers conduct a series of auditions, tasting around 250 of the year's wines 2-3 times. In early spring, they also evaluate 150 reserve wines from 14 different years.
In Krug Grande Cuvée, each element of the orchestra contributes to a joyful harmony, playing together the captivating melody of champagne.Julie records over 4000 tasting notes which she consults before each blending decision. The distinct characteristics of each wine, such as its unique melody, specific character, freshness, intensity, roundness and depth, are crucial to creating a harmonious whole.

THE INNOVATION
ID KRUG
Since 2011, the House has been inviting Champagne lovers to enter the Krug iD a series of six numbers present on the back label of each bottle in a dedicated section on the Krug website or via the Krug app, and since 2016, also via Messenger, to deepen their experience of Krug Champagnes.
The Krug iD offers an overview of the annual impressions of the Maître de Chai, a detailed account of the history of the bottle, recommendations for food pairings, tips for optimal storage and service, as well as suggestions for Krug musical pairings to enhance every Krug Champagne tasting.

Krug Rosé Krug Rosé is a delicate blend of wines of the year and wines chosen from the House's rich reserve, complemented by Pinot Noir macerated in the traditional way to provide structure and liveliness. After maturing for around seven years in the Krug cellars, this champagne acquires its precious elegance and refined character.
Krug Vintage, embodies the uniqueness of a specific year, bringing together the most expressive wines of that period and sublimating them during a maturation in the cellar of more than ten years.
